Always bargain. This place has great little cheap trinkets that are always sold at 1000% the cost it takes to make them. Remember that plate does not cost 40$ (after the exchange rate is applied) it's more like 4$ max. Variety doesn't differ that much from shop to shop but sometimes you can find things that are unique to one or two shops.

It's got pretty cool stuff. But a bit too pricey. So if you're a good haggler, it'll be a great shopping place. But if you can't haggle, I suggest you bring a friend who can.

Love the painting. You need to be a smart bargain there. Lots of handy craft and souvenir and cafe to hang out. Friendly people.

Fine as far as Asian markets go, if you like to barter on every single thing you see.
I normally don't mind too much, but got really sick of how some of the vendors got aggressive and rude if/when they sensed they weren't getting a sale...
Ended up buying most of my things outside the market in fixed price shops. MUCH nicer.

place of typical Balinese crafts. I suggest you to go there by riding a motorcycle or taxi or other public vehicle because it is very difficult to find a car park there because many of his visitors who visit ubud market every day. you can buy cheap goods with good quality there, but do not forget to bargain.

Great if you're not afraid to haggle. You can pick up some good quality stuff. Ideally go first thing in the morning as there is a 'Morning price' and they will generally be a bit more flexible to try and make the first sale of the day for good luck!

Cozy market in the middle of Central Ubud with many shops and stalls selling your usual souvenirs and gifts. Not very busy like Kuta or something. Some good artistic items from locals that you can buy as gifts. Unfortunately haggling is the part of the game when you buy. Restaurants cafes near by if you want to take a rest from shopping.

Another must do at Ubud. Too touristic but it worth giving a try. If you are in a hurry, there are better places to spend your time.

I went to one shop, and That shop sells some small pouches. I wanted to buy it,and asked price, staff showed me 120k. It's overprice! Just a small simple pouch.
I asked her to discount, but still expensive.
Finally, she got angry and threw away the pouch.i didn't do anything, just ask discount.
And she said some bad words to me!
I found same pouch 12k in Kuta. I'm so disappointed at that shop.

Very nice place, must see. Some interesting stuff handmade souvenirs. But I strongly recommend you to start negotiations by dividing asked price by three or four ;-)

It's a good market and will find many things here. Be sure to hassle as they will price things 10 times more expensive than they would sell it for.

Negotiate all prices. We ended up paying double for 2 kg if fruit. The person we bought from at the market opened up the fruit and gave us a taste of each fruit we did nit know. Make sure to try the Mangosteen fruits. They are delicious!

Quick tip: negotiate, negotiate, NEGOTIATE. Overall, I found the first price vendors told me to be about 4x higher than what they were willing to accept. Now there are exceptions to this but just remember to always negotiate.
Early morning 6am-8am - this is the place for fresh produce! I paid 10k IDR for bananas, 5K for a kilo of tangerines, 10-15K for half a kilo of snake fruit and 2K for one clove of garlic.
~11am-5pm - turns into a tourist market. Can be super overwhelming for some people, it's basically a maze of vendors all trying to sell you similar items. Upstairs tends to be more clothing, downstairs more trinkets and things. I visited the market about 4 times during my month stay in Ubud. I personally found the weekends to be overpriced - the prices here are more volatile than the stock market. One day they will start sarongs at 20K the next day they're starting them at 100K. I also noticed if you happen to look very white and touristy the prices they started at tended to be higher. I think less people go upstairs so they are more willing to negotiate, especially on a slow day a few hours before sundown.
Overall, this place is a fun experience if you don't mind crowds and negotiating prices.

I can understand that if you don't travel a load, this can feel like an interesting place to visit and shop.Well if you are seasoned traveler, you will be more like.."🤔That's It?" Hard to find anything really original..kind of full of those touristy stuff..The most funny part came when trying to haggle..Going from 800 thousand to 500 thousand, the guy just get up and says.".I don't have a time for this I'm going to eat my lunch"..Actually what is interesting generally in Asia, till they smile on you, than you should understand they just totally ripped you off..If they loose It, get angry, leaving..than you know you just get the price...still too high, but as low as it can gets as a tourist.. And please just drop the nonsense about those "poor people". The farmers has no chance to come and sell at these places..Thats only for certain selected ones.

my second time here. lucky that I didn't get too explore all the last time i came. more shops and alley to explore! and still feeling not enough. You have to bargain the price for almost every item from every stalls. But if i may give a kindly reminder, don't bargain too much if u find the price is fine for u. they earning money for daily expenses. bought few fans from kiddos, talked to them, and they r happy. Of course, we too!

A central place for groceries, arts and crafts and other knick knack souvenirs. Good to spend the morning looking at how local markets are (but do not buy anything there because the prices are exorbitant for foreigners). Always always haggle and pay for only what u think is reasonable
andre alim (23/04/2017 07:15)
Traditional souvenirs market in Ubud.. this is the top tourist destination if you are looking for some unique handmade 'trinkets', but remember to bargain for the price as they usually charge very high prices to tourists..
Meena Murugan (05/04/2017 07:10)
Good for cheap clothes remember to barter and a top tip is to go early in the morning to be their first customer to get the best deal!

Great traditional market.. A must go when you are walking around in Ubud.. They sell a lot of stuff and you must bargain.. Try to pay at least 25% of the price..☺

interesting place to visit for shoppers, nice buildings
Miha Pšenica (08/02/2017 13:25)
Closed roof market with textiles and souvenirs, all for tourists. Initial prices are very high, so bargain to get them closer to fair.
Zubin Khan (31/01/2017 13:50)
Tourist central and if you want to shop for "trinkets" this is the place to go. All the shops pretty much sell the same stuff, but it is nice to walk around and see where you can bargain the most
Be mindful though that if you are not a local the price has a multiple of 4/5 x. Start low and haggle for those souvenirs to take back home
