One of the rare quiet places you can find in Bali. It has a track which you can follow and there are more and enough guild to take care of you. There is a entrance fee of 30k for each person which includes the guide fee too. You should not take any food or drinks in your hand as monkeys will attack you to grab your food.

Nice park and a great place to stretch the legs. Good guides and very informative. Pretty tame monkeys, you can get a picture without much trouble

Beautiful temple and monkey forest. Much more peaceful and SIGNIFICANTLY less tourism compared to Ubud monkey forest. Much cheaper too. Highly recommended.

Was deserted when we visited. You have to pay for entry to the site (fairly reasonable) but you are then shown around by a 'local guide' who, at the end of the tour, takes you to their shop where you feel obliged to purchase some tacky souvenir. I understand that these people need to make a living but I'd rather they were upfront and instead raised the entrance fee or asked for a donation in return for the tour.
The site itself is fairly rundown. We didn't have any issues with the monkeys but left all our bags with our driver. I didn't really understand the attraction though.

Great place for photos. Monkeys like to jump on you if you stand still too long. Take time to explore around the forest and make sure you climb down the 200 steps to the river and see the holy spring water.

Well worth the visit, monkeys are used to interacting with visitors for fruit and snacks provided by their handlers. They are free to move around as they please and the surroundings are spectacular. Lots of small temples and if you're lucky some balinese newlyweds posing for photos in traditional dresses. Not sure how fun having a bunch of tourists observing their photo sessions was for then, but we were delighted.

We arrived at a side entrance with the gate open and just walked In and casually strolled around looking at the monkeys. They got a little aggressive when we didn’t have any food for them (barring their teeth). I eventually had to get a stick and swat at them to let us pass. Anyways, until that point the e peri eve was fascinating - very good photo ops deep Into the forest ! See the attached photos.

We just about passed this one up thinking it was just more monkeys. There are monkeys but this is a truly a beautiful Temple tucked into a beautiful forest. We were lucky this day because there were also three Bali couples taking photos for their weddings. They have some amazing outfits that they wear. Great place to get out of the sun and enjoy the beautiful Temples and scenery. And the monkeys!

Lust temple with nice garden full of Monkey families! The monkey rangers look after and trained the monkey and make sure they good to visitors!
Simon Rehm (12/10/2017 04:51)
The Guides/rangers really got the monkeys under control, the temple is nice and the woods even shield from light rain

The monkey forest is a nice and refreshing scenery.
Monkeys are well trained for camera. The guides, who happen to be photographers as well are very helpful...

The forest is beautiful and not too crowded. Very big trees here. Monkeys are mostly calm, however don't provoke them.
Christian Ritter (01/09/2017 13:03)
Small "forest". Monkeys are trained to sit on tourist shoulders. Good thing: no aggressive animals.
Peter Schoondermark (28/08/2017 07:13)
Nice. Not too many tourist, but you get what you eant in respect to monkeys.

This monkey forest hasn't got to many tourists like other ones. We bought some peanuts at the entrance for a fair price. At the start, where the monkeys are, there are locals who explain the monkeys in short. Things like don't have sunglasses on your head, don't touch the monkeys, pls open your bag of peanuts before you enter or one monkey will take it in one time 😆. The monkeys there are friendly because the locals keep an eye on them. I was rather sceptic about monkeys because they can get aggressive but here you are safe. We went to take a walk in the forest far from anyone else and we saw in the back of the road a local who was following us(just to keep us safe).
This monkey forest is a bit farther than the others from ubud, but it's worth the drive.

Feels smaller than Ubud Monkey Forest, but it is much less crowded and cheaper. Every visitor can get a monkey on their shoulder, if they want. The guides take care of it. ;)

Beautiful. Don't make it the only thing you visit in the day. It doesn't take that long to look around. Play with the monkeys. The local guides are very polite and non-pushy. 50-75 for tip is fair.
Julius Tan (26/05/2017 12:34)
Beautiful and serene place. Had a guide that walked with us around the temple and even offered to attract some monkeys over for photo opportunities. Entrance fee was 30k per person at the time I went.
Nanda Putra (16/05/2017 10:02)
one of the monkey forest in Bali which still well maintained, suddenly they jumping to your head or shoulder whenever food with you
Mangary Shutterspeak (27/04/2017 14:46)
this is the natural monkey habitat. its also place of holy temple that surround by big tree
Gillian Saccasyn (17/04/2017 17:46)
Nice and calm place. Almost no tourists
James York (20/03/2017 00:47)
A less crowded alternative to the Ubud Monkey Forest that I highly recommend. The guide takes you on a gentle stroll around the forest highlighting the different groups of monkeys and the 'king' monkeys. The cheeky monkeys will come and jump on you if you hold food but they were not violent.

Located off the beaten track. Huge parking lot but we were the only visitors. We actually liked the place better than Ubud Monkey Forest. Highly recommended!

Sangeh has been for us an annoying experience. We expected a restful place.. we couldn't just walk quietly without a "guide" or a guy attracting monkeys with sweets in order to sell us photos he would take of them with us. And then we ended up in the LONG circuit of shops selling t-shirts and sarongs and whatever.
We had an unpleasant 1/2 hour there (short, but too long). I will not go back or take any more friends there.
Mathias K (10/10/2016 15:39)
Quiet and beautiful monkey forest, cheap entrance fee, nice guides and very calm monkeys. Much better than the Ubud one!

Best monkey forest. Monkeys are friendlier and more relaxed than Ubud. The original and best monkey forest
Drew Antidormi (26/07/2016 19:45)
Awesome place. The monkeys are cool. The temples are really nice.
Björn Spengler (01/04/2016 07:12)
Bit of a hidden gem, I'd say. Place was mostly empty when we were there (april 16), staff was friendly and the temple is a nice sight. The monkeys round here don't seem to care for visitors much and we were able to watch them go about their life for a long time. A really good experience.
Sam Rains (23/03/2016 06:13)
I felt like the monkeys were a lot more friendly and the guides make sure you stay away from the aggressive ones. It was cool to be able to feed them peanuts and see the baby monkeys with their mums. The guide was good taking pictures etc but you can only go through with a guide and at the end they take you to their shop so you can hopefully buy something which can be a bit awkward if you dont want to.
Made Winata (20/03/2016 07:10)
Homogen Pala trees and many monkeys.
Jos Ngamelubun (17/02/2016 07:47)
Great place very sereen very old and tall trees many of them its like Bali long time ago even the monkeys are nice and cool compared whit the one in Ubud
Joni Subroto (03/01/2016 08:37)
The place is small. Natural indeed, but the some of the monkeys are so aggressive. My little nephew was bitten by the monkey, not really bad though. So, be careful with your children, stuffs, and yourself. Obey the warning signs and the guards advice there
