Make sure you arrive first thing in the morning (6-7 am). You will then have the this special place to yourself. The light filtering through the trees makes this spiritual place also magical.

Descend the stairs to the valley temple through a small village and cascading rice paddies.

As a sacred place you need to wear clothing to cover your legs and shoulders. Sarongs are available from the village but not in the early hours of the morning, so bring your own.

Not as crowded as you'd expect for a UNESCO world heritage site. You need to go down about 300 steps across small bridges and rice paddies to get to the royal tombs -- definitely not for expecting mothers! Also, they expect a small donation for the sarong.

This was one of my favourite temples in Bali. The entrance fee is 15k Rupiah pp adult. So it's quite fair, and you can get a sarong. The stairs are the worst from anywhere else as they are quite steep and there are a lot. But you can rest. There are a lot of stalls along the way and they will all ask you to buy something, but just keep going past them if you want.
You can also stop and take photos along the way as there are great viewpoints.
The main area is a stunning carved rockface with water running, a mini waterfall and a river within the trees. Gp early so you can manage the steps and walk in cooler weather. But definitely worth it.

Fascinated by this place after seeing it in The Fall, one of most beautiful movie ever made. It situated in a river valley. You must walk down the valley to visit this temple. The temple is a carved and sculptured rock wall, with several traditional ritual houses.
The river itself is surrounded by lush green scenery, clear water, and relaxing natural sound.
Although its very tiring to climb back, but this place is worthed to visit.

Ancient and sacred place for meditation, rock cut temples and caves for meditation. The temple is serene. You have to walk few steps down to reach temple.

Anuthinan Suthanthiranathan (20/04/2018 12:00)
One of the best view and best food path routed to this temple. You need to prepare your self to walk around 5-6 KM or 15-20 minutes walk. You can have an access to the rice terrace view and etc. You can find so much of peaceful time in this temple.

Distance is far from denpasar city. To go to the temple should go up and down the stairs are quite tiring. But not in vain, because the temple looks still very beautiful and awake. For visitors are expected to keep polite because this is a temple that is still actively used for places of worship. Usually the worship service is done in the afternoon.

315 steps. Carved into the local rock, interesting and not crowded. Probably not worth a special trip, but if you're in the area might as well.

yunus emre (12/03/2018 02:42)
The temple is quite large, consists of several parts. Pass up and down the stairs. Quite exhausting, but it pays off with a very unique and cool temple amazement.

Matthijs van der Veer (28/02/2018 09:44)
Very beautiful temple. As always, you can borrow sarongs. They are included with the ticket and you get them when you go down. So don't buy any, the saleswomen will gather round you to sell them.

Very big place, nice, I like it because of its unique architecture and site seeing.
Also you can buy ther nice souvenirs but you should reduce thr price 4 or 5 times less than the seller says.
That if you like to pay the real price.
If it doesn't make deference, so you can buy and pay that price which seller says.
Any way people are good and friendly.
Place is amazing.

Steven Leong (06/11/2017 08:38)
Its tomb, temple with carvings on the wall. Flights of stairs about 200 steps each way. The only consolidation point is the midway paddy field with a hut selling coconut. Take some time off and enjoy the view before hiking back up.

Dewi Kuantitatif (20/10/2017 23:24)
need efforts to enjoy this place, like hiking i'm so tired. but its worth .. Amazing place, see the original culture, see the amazing place

Jamie Dargusch (26/09/2017 12:43)
We arrived right before closing, there were maybe only 3 other couples. Most little stalls selling things were closed for the day. It was quiet, beautiful, humbling. A must see! Be prepared for the hike down and back up the stairs.

rizky hermawan (06/09/2017 02:02)
Amazing place. Feel so quite and peace. The stone cliffs were carved for praying temple. There are also ponds where people can purity their soul. This temple has several times became movie sets for its uniqueness. There are hundreds of stairs to step down to the temple area.

Lydia Penkert (27/08/2017 07:49)
Was an amazing place, entry was 150.000 and 2000 for parking scooter. I spend nearly two hours there, the whole temple and surroundings are impressing.

Kristal Liza (25/07/2017 06:48)
It's a bit off the beaten path for tourists as evidenced by the few people visiting the place when we got there. But it's very serene and gives you a sense of Bali's history. Going down the 200-plus steps to the temple is easy, but you might be winded while going back up, so be prepared with some water.

Wout van looveren (17/07/2017 07:17)
Wonderful place. To get there you have to take 200steps down. When we arrived there were some women trying to sell you sarong. A dress to enter the temple. Do not buy these as this is a scam. You can use one for free at the entrance. It was not crowded with tourists as we expected.

Nathan Fosdahl (13/07/2017 06:03)
Beautiful and tickets are very affordable.

Always bargain with the sellers on the side and I will get them as low as I can and when they refuse to go lower, walk. They'll call you back and you'll get a price you want.

Try to ignore the conversion rate. Just because it's cheap in dollars or Euros doesn't mean that you aren't paying double or triple the worth.

Swapnil Kshirsagar (10/07/2017 09:28)
Amazing place. Specially those stone sculptures. Entry ticket is 15k idr each. Also there is parking ticket of 2k. You better be in your good shape for those many steps.

Carmen Montoro de Damas Daroca Daroca (10/06/2017 14:35)
Nice temple to visit. No need to buy a Saron since it is included in the entrance ticket.

Aruna Bali (05/06/2017 07:45)
Beautiful Temple near Tirta Empul Temple Tampak Siring. You will need mo energy for trekking to visit the temple. White water river and beautiful panorama of rice field , will see on your way to temple.

carlos MsGr (11/05/2017 21:40)
Very nice temple, even after google send me to a place 1km away, last year. Carved in the stone and worth to be seen.

Meena Murugan (03/04/2017 08:23)
Pretty temple, long walk to get there with many steps so make sure you're fit enough to do so! Lots of stalls with people trying to sell you stuff along the way. The spring water trek is not worth the detour

VT Ng (10/03/2017 07:24)
One of the most beautiful, unique and hidden temple in Bali. Not many tourists will go here, so it's very quiet. There's a long and beautiful walk down the hill (with good stepping stones) across rice fields and small streams. Great stone statues inside.

Nhi Vo (17/02/2017 21:16)
Beautiful temple in the middle of the rice fields and forest. A lot of stairs to climb up and down but the pretty scene around will distract your hesitancy. Very quaint, clean and historical inside.

Tanner R (29/01/2017 22:33)
If you have time this is an ok temple to stop by in the area. But not a must see. There is a a fairly steep walk to get down to it, however. So not the best for anyone who has a hard time doing a good amount of stairs.

Kaia Suki (22/01/2017 02:06)
A must when in Ubud. You feel like your right in an Indian Jones film. Takes your breath away when you go around the corner to see the temples. Stunning and worth every penny.

The stairs with all the shops are however very annoying if you don't want to buy!

The Wandering Frog (05/01/2017 23:42)
Beautiful temple lost in the middle of the forest and rice fields. Impressive carvings, it is also a quieter temple than others, mainly due to the stairs preceding it's entrance. Loads of shops at the entrance so you can buy a sarong if you forgot yours or have a refreshing coconut at the end.

Susanna Mariotti (21/11/2016 04:02)
Temple carved in a giant stone. You can really feel the real religious spirit here. The king used to visit this temple and there are many steps. Sorrunded by a wonderful view of the rice terraces.
A little bit annoying all the ladies at the entrance that want to sell you the sarongs. You can also rent one from the temple, if you don't have it.

Wayan Sueta (20/08/2016 04:35)
Perfect to be visited late in the afternoon after all the tourists crowd. When you get off the car at the parking lot, there are many shop's ladies are offering you sarong but you do not have to buy as you can use one from the temple by the entrance after the ticket counter. It is worth to walk around off the main Temple complex as there arr stunning scenery of river valley and rice terraces. It is important to pick the right time to visit this place as it could be so crowded with visitors. Best time is 8am and 5 pm.

Diah Fajrina (21/08/2016 13:47)
A long way to heaven..... This beautiful mysterious Pura located deep down the jungle. To reach this Pura we need to take a lot of stairs down by passing through rice fields and crossing the river. Very tough way to climb up back too...So prepare your stamina, own water and sport shoes. Beautiful scenery everywhere more than you can expect... So it is a must visited place if you are in Gianyar area.

Peter Dautzenberg (16/08/2016 13:38)
Ancient temple in beautiful lush green jungle. We came from the north and navigated with Google maps. We didn't arrive at the main entrance. A local guy showed us the way through sawa's and jungle. Slippery and steep. We borrowed a sarong from the guy. We were a bit suspicious but it al turned out well.

Mate Valtr (15/08/2016 17:40)
Another mysterious temple place positioned on the bottom of rice field valley, so only way to access it is by walk through a staircase from nearby village.

At the very entrance you might be hassled by street hawkers trying to sell you a sarong with an argument that it's requirement in order to enter sacred temple. It is true you have to cover your legs with cloth when entering any temple in Bali, but like everywhere else, they will borrow you one at ticket check right before staircase steps so don't worry about sarong hustlers.

David Lu (24/07/2016 08:11)
Beautiful place where you can take a lot of great photos. No need to buy any sarong outside as you can borrow one from the temple. Cheap entrance fee.
Don't miss the rice field areas (I think many people did miss it when I was there and I didn't see the pathway at first when walking to the temple).
For the explorers: I walked also south of the temple and village and took the alternative/parallel route south (follow the cyclists tour if you see them) and you will see more and better rice fields/terraces. I don't recommend to walk further then, was not much after the rice fields, so better head back to main road for transportation.
