Wonderful, locally owned coffee shop that sources its own beans on the island. It's not central to town, so it's not always convenient but does always have an open seat. Closes with most of the local holidays - could use a schedule out front. Check their Facebook if you're planning ahead.

We loved Old Friends Cafe!! It’s the best coffee in Ubud for sure. Every single cup is made with love and attention. They really take pride in their coffee and service.

This is my absolute favorite coffee place in Ubud (Bali as well). The owner is a coffee farmer who uses only his and his own family's beans from Kintamani (region of Bali) in his shop. He then sorts them and roasts them on the premise. In the five or six times I visited, I never saw anyone else preparing the coffee/espressos/lattes/etc other than him. And it's a real treat cause he puts so much care and attention to each cup he prepares.
So here's the thing: if you care about the love that's put into the preparation of something you're going to consume, then this is the place to come to. I tried about six to seven other coffee places in Ubud, and the coffee is always prepared by hired hands, usually young and basically doing their best to hold down a job. Here, it's different. It's like enjoying something prepared by an artist who has studied his craft for a long time.
And yes, the coffee tastes wonderful! (I actually broke a recent coffee fast so that I could re-taste their coffee.)
You can also buy freshly roasted beans to take home with you. They make great gifts.
But also, the space is lovely. There's quiet jazz and Latin music in the background, not too loud, so conversations don't get out of hand here. People seem mostly polite about the noise they're making. It's rarely packed since it's on the south side of Ubud where there's less tourists. Or there are more mature tourists and ex-pats who seem to frequent this place.
Lastly, they also have amazing raw cheesecakes and other such pies and cakes, some of them vegan (for those who care about that kind of stuff).

The best coffee shop in Ubud. From the cherry to the cup, the owner really knows about coffee. He is a coffee farmer, roaster and barista. In his coffee shop he just use the coffee that produce in his farm in Kintamani, Bali. He loves his job and coffee is life for him, the same for me, that I work in the specialty coffee industry!
The ambience and the customer service is amazing, thanks to his lovely wife.
Thank you guys!

Friendly Bali-Japanese couple owner. They make such a great team. Hubby will happily explain about the beans that his own family grows in Buleleng. Lots of love and passion are put to this cafe. Two thumbs up.

I'd give this place more than 5 stars if I could! Excellent local coffee, friendly service, and a relaxing atmosphere. The banana chocolate cheesecake is light and has a hint of coconut. A great place to spend an afternoon with a cappuccino and a good book!
