Monkeys are loose and wandering! So cool to interact or not! They playful amongst them and curious about humans, so watch out. Very fun experience. Well kept too.

I was happy to know that this place is now more organised. The ticketing booth was so neat, they provided guideline booklets in many languages, French, Russian, Korean, Italian, Spanish, German, Indonesian, Mandarin, and I believe there were more. They also provided some water for the tourists to drink and some sinks so tourists could wash their hands and feet. For the monkeys, I can't say anything about them. They're naughty but that's just what they're like and that's the fun part :D

Many taxi drivers told me that this monkey forest was the safest amongst the others in Indonesia. I thought I missed out on monkey activities when I forgot to bring them fruit. This is a beautiful sanctuary and the temple is absolutely exquisite. I really enjoyed the many monkeys surrounding this Forest and how close they got! I would suggest to make sure you do not drop any of your bags on the ground because these monkeys will take them! Even having no food, they thought that my boyfriends hand sanitizer was something that they can take. As I was watching them climb onto my boyfriend's back, realize they are absolutely very intelligent and try to open it! Just be cautious of your stuff but have fun! I definitely recommend going here!

Good place if you see monkeys. But I have had enough monkeys. There are good warning signs in English. Monkeys look happy... so much better than a zoo. And monkeys can jump on you and eat if you ask caretakers.

Pretty nice experience. The monkeys are well behaved (at least during my time) and they don't give a single F if you are up close taking pics or staring at them. As long as you are not touching them or their kids, they are chill. Just like normal human behavior I suppose.
The forest is not that big but it's pleasant. This is a must of you got kids. They will love it.

This place is definitely worth a visit, if you are not afraid of monkeys. The monkeys are not afraid and will be coming up to you and maybe even try to empty your pockets or take something from your bag. Very cool to be so close. They are cute and there are also some baby monkeys. Worth the experience!

Really nice to see a sanctuary for the monkeys. Not expensive. Can stay as long as you want. You can buy food for them inside and feed them. Cutest little baby humans! They like to steal things 😂😂

Impressive meaningful statues attract you. I love this place, and recommend to everyone one who visiting Bali , Indonesia.

Great experience! Don't touch the baby monkeys, show teeth or look them in the eye to avoid getting bitten. Follow common sense and you will have an incredible time!

A bit like some sort of magical world, walking among all the moss covered sculptures as troops of monkeys run around and leap through the trees. Don't try to touch the babies or pull the monkeys' tails unless you would like to get bitten. The forest is beautiful and monkeys are fascinating and entertaining to watch. Hold onto your belongings and don't bring food in, these little guys are not in the least bit scared of people.

As soon as you walk in, there are active monkeys - playing with each other, grabbing things from unsuspected tourists, jumping on them, opening backpacks. I wanted to walk through without any interaction but that's impossible. The fact that there is the necessity for a first aid centre worried me too..
I'm sure it would be fun if you didn't mind being manhandled by over confident monkeys, but these are intelligent creatures who know exactly how to exploit humans, and I left after 3 minutes.

Monkeys are cheeky but if you observe them Long enough. They have various behaviours and the monkey forest is a great opportunity to view and interact with them. You can get bananas from local sellers where they would give you tips on how to get the monkey to take photos with you. Be wary of your bags, plastic bags and water bottles. The holy temple also has a small river with an amazing zen feeling. The bridge overlooking the river is a popular photo spot!

I cant believe that i paid to get in to see monkey. Take time to enjoy the forest though, there's a small temple with a wishing pond. Beside that place, there's a small path to walk around the place. Careful though, its a narrow path, below is a stream. Its a cooling place to chill and relax. Just dun carry loose stuff or food or even a bottle water. They will grab and open it.

Great place to go. Beautiful forest/jungle with ancient statues and wild monkeys. But be careful of having food or shiny things out, as the monkeys will try to grab them. I was bitten when I protected our house key which was in an outer, visible pocket, but the monkeys are regular checked and they do not have rabies. Would go again, but definitely not with babies or very small children.

I had my doubts about this place from the reviews but the monkeys really are allowed to be free (they are on the roads outside aswell). They are not aggressive but they might go for your bag.
My wife had a rucksack (no food on her/in the bag) and the monkey randomly jumped onto her back and had the bag unzipped in a few seconds and was pulling all the contents out! We tried to stop it but it bared its teeth and did bite her arm very gently (did not break skin) so we just had to allow it until it got bored. This is the type of thing you have to accept will happen as you are walking about in their habitat. There are also a lot of staff around who will scare the monkeys away if they are getting too boisterous.
My suggestion is don't take a bag if you can help it, or if you do, carry it under one arm where they can't get to it and you will be left alone. They really will not go for you.
But if the prospect of having a monkey possibly jump on you is not something you want...don't go.
The monkeys are extremely clean and obviously well looked after. After the 'bite' we visited their medical centre by the main gate and the staff were great and reassuring.
All in all a great place to see wild animals up close, but this comes with the associated risks, which are in my opinion well worth it as opposed to seeing animals in cages.

If you love Monkeys, you will love Monkey Forest. Very well laid out and maintained. Monkeys are not domesticated, but not timid either. If you want to get up close, buy or bring bananas.

Keep your belongings and don't make to much move if you don't want to attract group of monkeys. Great forest. Your eyes will be relaxing with all greeny views.

Very entertaining place to visit! The monkeys are fun to watch and interact with. They sell bananas on site to fee them: 20,000 IDR for a "small bunch" and 50,000 IDR for a "big bunch". Don't bring anything of value because the monkeys can still it from you. Store everyone is an closed bag and don't put any food in your bag. Then enjoy their shenanigans!

Cool place with lots and lots of cheeky monkeys, a must visit while in Ubud! Be careful with sunglasses etc as the monkeys might want to steal it from you;) Staff working in this place if helpful, they help out of you want to get a picture with a monkey sat on your shoulder etc as well as calming down some monkey that are in a not so happy mood. Also amazing green trees and nature!

Great experience, I've never seen so many monkeys at one place running free, they can even jump on you, steal something from your backpack. You have to be careful though not to scare them, because they can become aggressive, especially when with it's young ones. You can feed them to have closer contact. It's for sure a must visit place.
Rafael Ruiz-Villar (11/08/2017 15:15)
Cool experience. Maybe too many people but the it's the price of globalization I guess. It's pretty much a small jungle full of cheeky little monkeys that will grab any food you have so finish all your snacks before entering or they will steal it in a heartbeat!
Awai Li Run Yuan (01/07/2017 15:58)
It's a nice place with monkeys but a staff was not so wonderful. The tour guide lady chased us very fast to finish the whole place and then kept asking us to shop at the entrance.
justin tim (20/06/2017 14:12)
ok fun, but slightly scary. too many monkeys around and they can jump and sit on your head.
Haig Terzian (14/06/2017 16:57)
Lovely experience. The secret is not to look in the eyes of the Monkeys. Also make sure that you are not carrying any food on you. They are willing to attack you for food.

Amazing place to visit and well worth the trip to Ubud. The monkeys are a bit scary... You do need to keep your eye on them

It's a paradise for monkey lovers! But I found the monkeys very aggressive...be careful, especially if you bought bananas

Wonderful destination to visit in Bali. Here the visitors have the unique chance to walk free among this beautiful forest, monkeys are everywhere and you can watch them living free in this wonderful place.
Ridwan Hassen (06/04/2017 08:09)
Lives up the hype and then some. The monkeys are super friendly and there are more than enough for you to photograph. Over 600 of varying ages. Be mindful not to touch the monkeys, but they sometimes will jump on your shoulders when you sit on a ledge. Bananas are 20k for 4 and entrance fee is 80k. You can feed the monkeys if you wish. They won't hurt you and some will grab and dash. But it isn't too difficult to get one to climb on you. It's an experience I highly recommend if you are in Bali and worth the trip up to Ubud.

Forget the zoo this was excellent.
Yes they are nasty and very cheeky but if you except that you will have a funtastic day.
We had so many great interactions and many great photos.
They try and steal your belongings.
They fight for territory.
They are vulgar and think they are in charge.
I couldnt of had a better day.
The best part is when my partner wouldnt hand over the food so they bit her.
Hilarious l..

We have been coming and going to Bali for the last decade. A lot of things have changed on the island: some for the better, some for the worse.
While the Monkey Forest has always been a touristic attraction we think that even though it lost some of its character with the modernisation of the site, it has helped making it better accessible for elderly people and children. Also with the introduction of the staff the monkeys are much better cared for than in the past.
All in all it's a place that you must visit while you are in Bali otherwise it's like visiting London without seeing the Tower Bridge.
Jon Mander (30/01/2017 04:36)
Rp 40'000 entry was reasonable for a few hours walking around the forest, plenty of entertaining monkeys and interesring temples to see
Sarah Behrens (16/01/2017 09:54)
Took a lot of nice pictures with the monkeys it was a nice experience to fedd them with some bananas. Take good care for your valuables the monkeys like to steal them 😁 really nice landscape

We had a wonderful time here. Such a beautiful place. We went later in the day when it was quiet. Cheap to get in. The people complaining about the monkeys were probably stupid enough to feed them. Stay out of their way and respect their space and you will be ok.

This was such a beautiful experience! Strongly advice you to visit it while you're in Ubud and after you enter the gate, take some time to read the rules.
It was a fun day, we took lots of pictures and hanged out with the monkeys. It wasn't very crowded so we enjoyed some areas just for ourselves. Make sure your backpack is locked and you do not have any food easy to access as those little devils will steal it. Many cute baby monkeys to see.
