A place to go back again and again and again... I miss those people and the unique sunrises from the sweet Bunbulan!
Try the best balinese breakfast from the women who sell it in the street: Bubuh injin :) delicious!

The owner is a passionate (they frequently visit tourist destinations around Indonesia so that they can be more knowledgeable about those places and give correct information for their guests) and kind couple.
People usually come to the property to stay and rest before starting the Mount Batur trekking in the morning. You need to go uphill a bit to reach it, but it's definitely worth it if you're looking for a tranquil place to stay. If you're on a long trip and need to go from place to place around Bali, they can help you with the transportation and some guidance. They offer really affordable homemade foods with decent taste.

Bunbulan was a 5 star experience in my opinion. The real Bali that I was searching for. Nature in abundance, genuine locals with kind hearts and smiling, inquisitive faces. The hostel is well equipped for a relaxing or adventurous stay. The dorm was comfortable, clean and had 2 great ceiling fans. The restaurant served a small, inexpensive selection of traditional dishes. The Batur sunrise trek (arranged at the hostel) was amazing and felt way more exclusive than the tours arriving on big coaches.
The trek starting point is 5 minutes drive from the hostel and you cook eggs, bananas and coffee from the volcano. The guide works for the hostel, so the duty of care for your positive experience is also greater.
Lake Batur is also only a 30 minute walk down the hill and you can say hello to many locals along the way.
If you're looking for the opposite to what's on offer in Kuta, start at Bunbulan.

This place was absolutely fantastic. As a low-key budget Traveler it is really really nice because the owner was super friendly and comes and chats with you if you want and talk to you about the area and help you with everything you want to do. Unlimited free tea and coffee, the rooms were quite comfortable and they have private rooms and a dorm and it always makes a trip when you go home with memories of making friends and being welcomed very warmly by your host which was definitely the case here. Aside from the very comfortable rooms for the cheap price they also do the volcano tour Arrangements. They leave from the hotel at 4 a.m. which is great because if you leave from different cities you have to leave at 1 or 2 a.m. so it's worth it to just come here even for one day so you don't have to wake up at 1 a.m. and they give you breakfast and coffee and the price was $40 hours for the long tour where other companies simply do a shorter tour where you just go up and come down for anywhere between 50 and $80. It's best just to do it from here with these people because they were very professional and took care of us the whole way. And one last thing, the owner is very involved in the community and a local leader and he uses his own money to rebuild temples and some of the local infrastructure so when you stay here you can feel good knowing that your money is going to be used to help the local community. One of the best tourist experiences we've had, it won't blow you away, well the volcano trip well, it was amazing, but you leave there feeling very warm and welcome in Bali

Very Friendly Staff
Neat and clean dormitory and standard rooms with the Mountain view. They can arrange for the best trekking with wonderful guide, If you wish to do the trekking. The starting point for Mount Batur is very close, so no need to start very early. They also serve tasty homely food at an economic price. Overall for me the best stay during my holidays in Bali.

Wonderful! Amazing hosts who are so kind and helpful and want you to have the best experience possible. I felt like family the moment I arrived. Also, this hostel sits inside a small crater - so cool! If you're thinking about hiking Mount Batur, stay here!

The owners at this hostel are so warm and welcoming. They took us around the town voluntarily and we booked the hike up Mt Batur with them - the guide was great! The hostel is beautifully set inside one of the smaller craters which made for some nice views. Great experience!!

I had an amazing stay in Bunbulan Hill Hostel! The surroundings are wonderful, and the hostel itself very well decorated! There is plenty of activities to enjoy in Batur's area, enough to not be bored for several days! The hostel is well arranged with many services included, and a very good quality. But most of all, the hosts are lovely, full of attention and of kindness. They are always here to help, teach about the area, or make it discover. My stay there was simply perfect.

We enjoyed our stay more than activities, that Krisna, patron of this small community, organizes for his guests. From swimming in hot springs, over visiting of the top of mount Batur, to motocross in the middle of volcanic crater. And many more... Bunbulan Hill village is an idyllic retreat from the busy Indonesian lifestyle that surrounds it. More than anything else though, we appreciated conversations with our host, as he is a man of many stories. We strongly recommend, to any adventurer who gets so far in his travels around Bali, to consider staying a night or two at this beautiful place. There are many ambitious plans to be realized and we are looking forward to the day we come back. Best wishes!

Wonderful place to stay. After spending some time in the busy Kuta and Ubud I was very pleased to find this place. The hostel and guesthouse are located in a beautiful crater within the big crater which makes it very pleasant, peaceful, quiet and serenic. A 30 minute hike up to the small crater-rim for a spectacular view of the large crater with the lake, the agricultural terrasses and Mount Batur. Very friendly staff which took me sight-seeing to a few of the many temples nearby. Warungs and shops are close by.
Not a place for partying, but a place to discover the real Bali!
