We have visited all the major well-known art museums in and around Ubud ... and this is our favourite.
It is poetry the way all the architectural and landscaping elements of three restaurants, a luxury resort, cultural centre, educational facility and art museum are harmonically juxtaposed together as a delightful work of art.
This particular art museum is actually more than just a museum.
It is part of a much greater whole: a much broader encompassing vision by Agung Rai ... a surprisingly humble & gentle man whom we had the privilege to personally meet during our visit there.
The man himself - a local legend in the making - can be found frequently strolling around the immensely delightful surroundings, smiling and greeting guests, visitors and staff ... making himself available, a work of art himself.
Be prepared to spend more time here ... it's worth every valuable minute.
Enjoy!

Good arts were displayed
You will require at least 2 hours to observe the art and read about them to know more knowledge about the culture of Bali, it's temples and Hinduism
The entrance is 80000 idr per person which includes a free coffee
Early in the morning this place is very cool with less crowd and free to explore
We can also see Artists painting and carving
The staff were good as well

Took a batik lesson. He could not speak English or tell us why we were using the techniques he had us draw. Started out by just saying to draw something. No stencils, rotten for someone not able to draw. Setting of ARMA very tranquil and we had our lesson outdoors. Cannot recommend for art workshop. However, museum worthwhile for visit.

Nice place. Go early so you can avoid the heat and enjoy walking around the beautiful grounds. Some very nice works of art in each display room. Ticket included a free coffee/tea (iced or hot). Excellent value for the entry fee.

Super chilled out with hardly any people, had a nice time and had the place to ourselves. Entrance included an iced coffee or tea, which we enjoyed overlooking a rice field

Lovely place. Must visit if youre an art aficionado. You can actually meet the artists at work. Also if you go at a good time you can see the school kids learning balinese dancing and it is quite a visual to see over a 100 students learn dancing.

This was one of our favorite places in Ubud. The art gallery is a nice place to relax for an afternoon. Even better is the sprawling property here. Definitely make sure to walk around and check out the pools and water features on the property. In the heart of Ubud but feels like you are lost in the rice fields.

Without a doubt, the best museum in Bali and one of the best Art museum in the world. It showcase not only paintings, but you could also learn balinese way of life and culture. With a relatively cheap entrance, it is becoming a must visit place in Bali.

One of the finest place in Ubud to spend a nice quiet and enjoyable afternoon. Very very good collection of art, specifically paintings. Premises is very pristine and one enjoys just being there. A nice restaurant on the premise. Second part of the property is a very good resort and it's worth spending a weekend there. The art collection is all of local artists of Indonesia. Many of the paintings are marvelous to breathtaking.

Amazing variety. Amazing grounds. Fantastic information + pamphlet included in the admission fee. Stunning artworks and exhibition. Museum shop isn't really a shop... rather something dusty and long forgotten, like a relic of a museum gift shop.
However, what I experienced art wise was a must see.

Nice paintings spread across several buildings in a park like environment. Very tranquil setting and relatively few tourists.

A nice place to visit if you have some extra time to kill in Ubud - the art exhibited here is not really something that will blow you away.

What an amazing place to visit! Highly recommended to anyone interested in learning about Balinese art, and also Balinese history through art. Sometimes ARMA hosts events, I went there for the indigenous celebration, wow, mind-blowing!

Saw some interesting art and learned a bit more about Balinese culture. Not a 'must do', but I enjoyed the visit.
It's set in some beautiful gardens. Entrance is 80k per person but you get a free tea or coffee of your choosing. It came with Balinese coconut cake which was lovely!

Great collection of Balinese art to see the evolution through recent centuries. The facilities, buildings and gardens are very nice and we even managed to see the school girls practising Balinese dance as part of the foundation work they do. It was probably the least touristy and more cultural visit we've managed to sample during our trip. There is a complimentary drink and we got a coconut pancake as well on the inside cafe overlooking some of the gardens. Definitely worth the money.

4.25 stars. Entrance fee is 80k and it comes with coffee or iced tea. It's much bigger than I thought. The artwork is magnificent and is just enough (not too much). International and traditional paintings. There are many things to see here and the grounds are beautiful. Perfect for a short afternoon and it was relatively quiet around lunchtime. The cafe is also nice. Food is priced well and really tasty.

The Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) provided a portal into another dimension of Bali. We walked through the entrance gates and were transported to old Bali, complete with natural and serene surroundings. It was amazing to learn that this living museum was the vision and continued effort of one local man, Agung Rai and not the Indonesian government.
Balinese art was all around us, from the stone carvings to the gardenscape. There were artists illustrating daily life in Bali on canvas and etches by woodcarvers. We could also hear the gongs and clings of gamelans and the laughter of young children practising legong dance.
The collection of artworks was housed in two large buildings, one featuring the evolution of Balinese art from monochromatic black and white to color and the other documenting early western influences on Balinese art and some contemporary works. Beyond the galleries, we could also engage in painting, wood carving, music, dance workshops and tour of ancient Ubud.

Amazing art you can spend hours enjoying. The property itself is an oasis of calm - welcoming you to explore, photograph and maybe have a bite or two. One can walk around the entire museum and resort feeling tranquil in the lush green surroundings, having never left the heart of ubud.

Just painting and sculpture but it's very impressed. Traditional bali's art and something unusual. Waterfall Park is near by.
Shameer Khan (25/09/2016 05:50)
Very interesting art of various types from various eras and naturally, various artists. The garden was lovely and the cafe was relaxing and refreshing.

Not just a art gallery but also has cool gardens and you get a welcome drink. Great value and well worth a visit.
Marc Naether (12/08/2016 03:34)
Large and good collection of Balinese art as some as some other modern art. Some explanations in English. The ticket price is a little high though (currently 80k Rp).
Dorothy Ooko (11/08/2016 06:38)
There are two entrances but once you find them all's well. They have an amazing collection depicting the Balinese culture and way of life. Entrance is around $8 and with that a complimentary tea/coffee at the ARMA coffee house.

Worth the short trip out of central Ubud - make sure you see both sections of the museum.
CJ Schellack (24/10/2015 11:39)
Make sure you see both the classic and contemporary art -- they are in two separate buildings. I think ARMA is the best art museum in Ubud.
Oscar Indarto (05/01/2015 07:17)
Nice garden but the main exhibition buildings need repair..
