High tea is still available in the lounge close to the lobby with a choice from the menu. You are able to walk in off the street and order as I did on the day. The staff are pleasant and attentive and the surroundings luxurious. I was able to walk around afterwards and take photos of the beautifully manicured gardens and architecture both inside and out. I also noticed a small designated area for smokers outside, which wasn't mentioned elsewhere. A step back in time, well worth the visit for the high tea.

The hotel was nice. They ruined the experience by stressing us into booking their expensive airport transfer because “they couldn’t find a taxi” and we would find intense traffic. As a result we arrived to the airport HOURS before our flight (instead of enjoying their high tea as we had originally planned). Do yourself a favour: don’t ask reception, just BOOK A GRAB TO THE AIRPORT AND PAY 1/4 OF THE PRICE.

Very clean hotel. Very good service. The hotel and rooms give the feeling of going back in time to about 1930 or so. The furniture and plumbing fixtures are of that style. But everything is in working order and clean. Of course they have good wifi and modern amenities like t.v. and gym...etc. Not only that I had some special issues regarding schedule and the hotel accommodated me perfectly allowing me to complete my tasks. I will always stay here when I come to Surabaya. Often hotels talk up their service... until they need to deliver. This hotel delivered for me.

A very well taken care historical hotel in Surabaya. With a beautiful terraces, rooms and facilities make this hotel a dearly loved hotel by foreigners. The Sarkies restaurant provides the best culinary experiences. All you can eat Dim sum at the weekend will really brighten up your day.

A hotel with such a rich history. The service has so far been great. A great place to stay with a huge mall just 5mins walk away.

Spent an evening here at Balai Adika. It was my first time here and I wad so impressed with this hotel. It started by entering the parking area. I was astounded by the view of Tunjungan Plaza from its parking area. It was magnificent view that I didn't aware of. Entering the hotel, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel. The decor, the garden, and all are so awesome.

Beautiful hotel, well kept and clean.
Quality of service was excellent and very pleasant staff. Good sized pool and warm water. Room was very nice, bed comfortable and well cleaned and serviced. Absolutely nothing to complain about. I recommend this hotel highly.

a historic five-star hotel about the fight for Indonesian independence in past. Interior and exterior is maintained from the first until now, classic touch will feeling comfortable. Garden scattered in some point2 of the hotel make the eyes entertained

Very historic hotel. The classic building is very beautiful, clean, and fresh. The service is top class. Built since the Dutch colonial era. The walls are still original, thick and strong. The wood is original and strong. It was felt in the past.

I came here with my friend for lunch, partly because of the hotel's historic significance (with the independence day coming), partly because I was interested in staying there during my next trip to Surabaya. As we were enjoying the hotel's beautiful yards and taking photos, a hotel staff approached us to ask if we were hotel guests. After we told her no, we were promptly told that we were not allow to be there, let alone taking photos with a camera. Unless we spend money there on something, she added. I lost my desire to have lunch at the Majapahit Hotel, and won't consider staying with them in the future either. Luxury hotels in general welcome none-staying guests to wine and dine there, so it's surprising that we were told off by a staff. Not to mention the fact that Majapahit Hotel is not just any other luxury hotel, but a hotel with big historical significance, related to the country's independence struggle. It is a history which deserves to be honoured, and kicking out none-staying guests for taking photos is not the way to do it. Very disappointing

Great historical place! A bit creepy but still lovely

Ellie Treherne (07/08/2017 12:00)
Such a historic place with amazing style. Whilst some may complain it is not perfect in every way I think this is only by those who are so used to luxury every day they have nothing better to do. This is an old building and so will show signs of age as we all can. But luxury is in the service and the feel. This has both but not the price tag. To be frank I felt better here than the Raffles in Singapore .... Where I only drank a sling as not able to afford to stay there. So for me Majapahit has it all. Great staff, fantastic setting with good location and excellent facilities at an affordable price. Only suggestion is to update the towels.

Beautiful place from colonial era, great for photo, the room nice, and have the calm ambience. We slept peacefully in the comfy, yet classy room. Breakfast service was good, the let down only there is some leaking from the AC in the breakfast area, but it was only a small problem compared to the great place and good service they had provided.

Old five star hotel with historical value. Some people said the hotel is a bit spooky

Always a pleasure! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful! Many thanks to Farid the night manager who took it upon him self to escort my husband to the hospital and translate for 3 hours until 1am. We have been going to this hotel every time we visit family in Surabaya and it's always a great pleasure.
We look forward to visiting again! I highly recommend anyone staying in Surabaya to stay at this very unique hotel, it takes you back in time.

I would love to stay again. Big room, thick wall, & high ceiling make the room temperatur real real cold. The architecture is fantastic.

A very great grand hotel. I'll like to stay here if I visit Surabaya. : )

this is a fantastic hotel. you could easily spend two weeks here without getting bored, just enjoying the hotel and relaxing. room is big and nice, food is great, people are professional and kind. the best is the big garden. if you ever come to Surabaya you should stay here. it's worth every dollar, and it's very cheap compared to similar hotels in Europe or America.

It's a great place to stay in Surabaya. The service is excellent. This hotel would be in a higher level of satisfaction if they repolish the little gold plated interiors in the bathroom and also their western food.

Lachlan Wood (04/01/2017 09:19)
Great grand hotel. The gardens in this hotel are by far the stand outs, very beautiful. The staff are very friendly and willing to assist you with anything you need. Rooms are nice and comfortable. The Indonesian food available in the restaurants and room service is great but the western options are not so good. Overall it's a great experience to stay in this hotel.

nice historical hotel in colonial style under Mandarin Oriental management. Good for those who want to experience a fine heritage hotel in the heart of Surabaya.

Breakfast selections need to be improved for a 5-star hotel, especially on the vegetarian/vegan dishes.

Stayed 2 nights for my bestie's wedding. Banquet team were attentive. Staffs are nice and friendly.

Since it has a lush garden, there are many mosquitoes infested in the area. They provide mosquito repellent, aside from bugs spray, inside the room. Staffs are spraying public area, but for sure it need an improvement.

Overall, it was a good memorable stay.

I stayed in the Majapahit in 1998, just a couple of years after it re-opened following refurbishment. It was then the most relaxing & peaceful place I had found, which after the hustle of my role as Regional Manager in 7 countries in PacRim at the time, was like an oasis in the desert.
The standards of the refurbishment were tremendous, however this is not what makes a hotel "classy" - it's the attention to detail, the sense of style, a "can-do" attitude & most of all, the people:
The staff during my stays there were of the highest calibre, from the people directing vehicles arriving at the Majapahit, to the reception staff, a helpful & knowledgeable Concierge, those who catered for us & even housekeeping gave a sense of quality to the already-spectacular buildings.
The pool was unique in my experience, being made from local, unpolished tiles which was almost like a trip back in time - certainly unusual but the word "special" is somehow insufficient.
A friend of mine is currently at Surabaya Airport on his way home from a project further east & prompted me to look the hotel up. Writing the review came naturally as my 1998 stay here easily placed the Majapahit at the top of my hotel experiences, a place it remains in spite of some very hefty attempts to remove it by other experiences.
I sincerely hope that some day, I shall be able to return there to compare my previous stay.

I never sleep in this hotel. But i've ever accompanied my friend who took photo session on the rooftop of this hotel. And it was cool. It's like living history. An old and historical building.

I have stayed in Jakarta for abt. 2 years, and I had lots of business trip at many places in indonesia.
I am sure that I do not never forget some good memories like environments, moods, building style & historical trace, etc. of the hotel.

Even though my boyfriend said he saw a ghost, but we had a nice experience there. The hotel room was clean and comfortable with colonial design. The staff are also humble and gave us a good service. The food is also taste nice. I will recommend you if you go to surabaya, just stay at Majapahit hotel.
