Kembang Kuning (Yellow Flower) was founded in 1916 as a cemetery for the European population of Surabaya which was at that time part of the Dutch East Indies.
After the 2nd World War a war cemetery was established in the middle of Kembang Kuning - Ereveld - where militairy personal and civilians who died during the war were interred.

Exploring the tombstone and name engraved there is such an experience. Bring hats, sunglasses and bottled water

This war memorium is enclosed within a very big Christian cemetery.
According to locals, only relatives are allowed to enter.
However if your reasons are right, you are permitted to go in.
Very well kept, clean and very peaceful.
It is fenced all around and at the inner part of the fence, bamboos are planted.
You will not have a good from outside.
Those unpleasing reports written earlier actually refer to the local Christian cemetery.
Grass grow unkempt, locals seat on the tomb.
This place is packed, some of the tombs are gated and some are sliding to lower areas.

Perkuburan yg cukup bersih. Some of the gravestone is coming from a century ago and walking around there can be quite an experience.
Makes me remember about Anne Shirley in 'Anne of the Island' (L.M. Montgomery) where she often walks around the graveyard with her Gilbert...
