This is the third time i am here. The previous times the seafood always tasted fresh and deliciously grilled. This time i was very disappointed, the food tasted rather old and not as fresh as usual. Also tourism picked up over the years and the place was overcrowded by hundreds of people wanting to photograph the sunset. Its still nice to come here for the sunset but we tried a different restaurant the second time (same beach) and the quality of the food was much nicer and it was peaceful tucked away from all the tourist.

Nice place settings.. at the beach, but so expensive and the taste not worthed.. they have indoor and outdoor seating, so in case of rain, you can still enjoy the foods. Serving took a long time, maybe because it's so crowded and almost always crowded.. go to taste seafood while enjoy the beach, the wave, the wind, but not if you plan to find delicious seafood..

Good stuff:
1) food is really great, take grilled red snapper or live grouper, jumbo prawns. Better then in the cafes nearby, checked that.
2) great view

Bad:
1)book in advance good table, preferably through your hotel concierge. If you book direct they do not care much, can forget and will not care about that, you will have to wait and can get shared table with other guests if lucky. Manager/supervisor is really not good there.
2) It smells yummy grilled seafood, but note your cloths will smell too. I do laundry every time after visiting the place.

Do come over if you are not cranky, not very hungry, and not in such a hurry. Without a doubt, their seafood are one of the best in Bali but eating there is a real test of patience...it took like 40 minutes for my foods to come out the last time I visited..my previous experience were a lot worse because no food came out after waiting for 1.5 hours and we left the place hungry and angry. Also, don't bother wearing any fancy clothes as you will leave the place smells like smoke from their kitchen. Nonetheless, coming to Menega will complete your trip to Bali

Staffs are super rude!! Foods are standard, nothing to shout about. No coordination from kitchen staff to waiters. I really confuse, why this restaurant is so packed. Street food vendors are much polite and have manners. I lost my appetite and I did not finished my meals. Yeah, not all of my foods came out tho’. This place is really disgusting, you better think 10 times if you want to come here. If only FB has 0.5 stars, they deserve it. What a disgrace!!!

A good place for sunset dinner ; view is nice but not spectacular as there are better place and environment for sunset viewing.
Seafood is OK & fresh ; price is slightly on the high side as it’s a known tourist place , so don’t expect discount over here. Check the weight of your seafood orders.
Very crowded ; probably the most crowded among the restaurants available due to its popularity.
Will have singing band coming over to your table and sing a song or 2 for you ; tips are compulsory but it’s up to you how much you would like to pay. General rule per song Rp20k
If you are generous , and the singing is good ; feel free to pay more.

Seafood 4/5
Beach 3/5
Cleanliness 1/5
Service 4/5

Their food was excellent, we had a whole bunch of different meals at our table and everything looked/tasted great. My personal favourite here is the red snapper.

The down side really is that the beach is pretty gross.. there is quite a bit of trash. I include this in the review because this restaurant is known for being able to have seafood with your toes in the sand..
No customer should worry about stepping in garbage under their table.

Been here a few times and it used to be one of the best restaurant there. When you’re lucky, you’ll get a very good food, but sometimes you’ll get disappointed like what we experienced today.

Because its too crowded now their service is slow, and the queue to get the table is very long. Sometimes you have to wait for hours. We used to love their oyster cos they were pretty generous with their sauce in the oyster. But today, half of the oyster is still fishy and the sauce is minimal (the other half still taste great despite there is less sauce now). We ordered fried squid, and it turn out to be very chewy and the flour seems like its not being cooked properly, we cant even finish it. Despite all that their red snapper saved the day, it is very fresh and the meat texture is just nice.

At least we get a good sunset view by the beach 🌅

People says the seafood is so fresh. But for me it us not fresh enough. The sambal mata so good, made me ask more. The price is reasonable. Booking not required, but need to get there early so you can see the beautiful sunset.

One of the most favorite sea food restaurant by the sea. They improve a lot! Keep it up! Sometimes during busy hour the service become chaotic but so far we're impressed with the location and the food.

Go where the locals go for BBQ seafood! It is cheap and delicious. A little tip for diners would be to opt for the alfresco dining area near the beachfront, just so that you do not have to be enveloped with the smoke from the burning of coconut husks to cook the seafood. I took away one star for the supposed fresh oysters which I ordered as it looked all limp and stale with its meat detached from the shell already. I strongly recommend that you stick to the BBQ seafood instead! :)

Best Place at Jimbaran. Sometimes you wait to get places to eat, better reserve the place before. Overall the food is very good, very nice. The best thing is the view. The price is cheap by the way.

Olivia Rusli (08/08/2017 03:45)
Love the shells!! Definitely must try! The other menu are great as well.. Especially if you come before the sunset, such a perfect place to enjoy dinner with a beautiful sea scenery.. Don't come too late otherwise you'll need to stand in the waiting list.. 😁😁

The service was very bad. Try other places first before you even think of coming here. The taste of the food is exactly the same like the neighbouring restaurants. But the service is worse

asia concept (26/06/2017 00:54)
Famous on this beach.nothing special.
Were there on Sunday. Totally crowded. Did not even get on waiting list. Very smokey. Ate next door. Food the same. The whole area is overrated. Horrible traffic.

Tecky S (21/06/2017 10:39)
Ordered family dinner for 10, the fish is fresh but the clams are not. The shrimps are so so and the squids are quite hard. Good view from the outdoor seating area.

Aakanksha Marwah (17/06/2017 02:03)
The service was terrible. My boyfriend and I ordered one plate of prawns to share (about 2 lbs) and 2 drinks because we had snacked before dinner and the waiter gave us a dirty look for just ordering one plate. He then completely forgot about us. We had to remind him we had ordered from him and still hadn't gotten drinks after waiting for 35 minutes. He gave us a blank stare and frantically flipped through his notepad when we requested our drinks. Instead of simply admitting he forgot about our order, he guessed what we ordered. After another 20 minutes, our food was brought to us and it was completely wrong. We finally got our correct entree over an hour after we ordered. We then asked to pay and our bill still charged us for the wrong order.

My other advice would be to show up on time with your whole party. The table next to us was supposed to seat 6 and initially only 2 people showed up. They were seated and served their beers. AFTER getting their drinks, the outdoor manager made another group of 6 sit down at their table and forced the couple to leave because the rest of their party hadn't shown up yet. He then told them there were no more tables available then and they had to go somewhere else or wait a while. I understand not seating until the whole party shows up in order to increase turnover. The fact that they were seated, served drinks, and then forced to leave (literally shoved over by other people who took over their table) is absolutely absurd.

The food was good, but there is no sense of customer service at all. I recommend going to on of the other similar restaurants right next to it.

Luc Maubian (16/06/2017 07:32)
They could care more about guest and tell when crab is sold out at the order not 1 hour later. And tell during the meal, oh yes its coming don't worry. Never said sorry. The don't care. we will never going there again. So many good other restaurants around.

jaka susanta (14/06/2017 03:44)
The best spot for Balinese seafood experience. open your shoes and feel the clean sand under the table while crunching the crab and lobster. wonderful experience in the natural spot and friendly budget.

Arun Yuvarajah (26/04/2017 10:42)
Cafe on the beach is popular with tourists to watch the sunset and get song sung to you by Bali bands that know 60% of the lyrics it's great. This is one of many cafes that spread out onto the beach. Ganesh cafe is also excellent , PS Warung means Cafe in Indonesian. Enjoy!

Karl Lee (24/04/2017 01:13)
Is a romantic dinning experience on the beach. The food was nice and cheap but may not have many options. I particularly like the ikan Bakar, grilled fish, it is the Indonesia style which is different from Malaysia and Singapore. The place can be warm so dress lightly. Overall I only pay 330k with no lobster.

maxim usik (11/04/2017 15:50)
We use to love this place, it was our favorite see food place on Bali.

Now that place is gone. I will never eat here again. It became busy, dirty, expensive and very very bad service. Waiters doesn't pay any attention to customers.messing with orders and cheat with dish sizes.

Never ever again.

Ening Nurjanah (04/04/2017 10:05)
This seems a favorite place among the others restaurants next to it. Personally I would not come here for the food but the nice ambience. Get a drink or two and enjoy the sunset n the beach right in front of you is really something, if you keen to continue to dinner also fine, the shrimp, the crab, the fish are just oke, the fried calamari is not recommended.

Kim Skildum-Reid (23/01/2017 13:01)
Had a great meal at Jimbaran a couple of years ago, but failed to record the name of the restaurant. Decided to ask the hotel for a recommendation, and they sent us to Menega. Big mistake.

The food was mediocre, at best. Really, not good at all. the service was fast, but nonchalant. The wait staff had "I love my job" in big letters across their backs, which appears to be worn ironically. And despite having a full page of boozy cocktails on thie menu, and another half-page of other drinks, your alcoholic choices are beer and wine. Period.

It was way overpriced for the amount and quality of food. We left hungry and disappointed. Avoid.

indra yulianto (21/01/2017 12:24)
The taste and price is a bit same with other restaurants nearby. The service are really bad, because they very famous they ignore service area.
Not recommended.

Eating seafood, accompanied with the sound of waves, slow sea wind, see the sunset, I think it's beautiful, how God has gave us a lot. But very expensive, 1 package is Rp 180,000 per person, get 1 fish 4 skewer 4 calamari and vegetables, but taste so so. Customers choose this one rather the others, I don't know why. Better in kedonganan, the old ones.

Ильдар Галимбиков (04/01/2017 04:21)
Lobster was very salty but very big and tasty, prawns was cold but very soft. Squid was in breading and also cold. A lot of people and you have to wait 1hour for your lobster.

Michael Sy A Foek (09/11/2016 01:59)
I love this place. Every time I come back to Bali I make sure to at least dine here once. This place can get packed during sunset, so definitely make a reservation beforehand so you are assured a table on the beach and there will be no hassle and waiting. The seafood was delicious, we love the grilled clams especially. But the fish, prawns, and lobsters are fantastic too. The atmosphere is really good as well. It usually is very crowded and bustling with people wanting to see the sunset.

Hero Wijayadi (02/10/2016 00:44)
Great taste and ambience, just at the edge of the Jimbaran beach. What an experience to have dinner with the sound of sea waves. Very pricey though

Daniel Moningka (05/09/2016 08:50)
Menega is one of the legendary seafood restaurant in Jimbaran area, Bali.

You can eat/dine indoor/outdoor. The outdoor area is the beach view, so you can see the sunset.

This is a must visit place for the "Bali First timer" ;) The food is fresh and nice with reasonable price.

The minus of this place is only lacks of smile from the staff.

Remco Speelziek (04/09/2016 12:21)
Food was ok. But we paid 1.000.000 !!for 1 lobster and 1 crab with some white rice. 2 persons, no starter, no dessert. Afterwards we got some food at another place. Felt like we were ripped off at this place. Staff wasn't friendly also. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Lachy Hughes (25/08/2016 08:47)
Such a busy restaurant, but you wouldn't know it from walking past. All the seating is "out the back" on the actual beach itself. We only have to wait 15 mins for a table to free up, then enjoyed a grand selection of delicious seafood.

Candy Puteri Gunawan (22/07/2016 14:32)
Have been here a lot of time, but the service never excited us. VERY POOR. What's written below had happened to us a few time with the same exact scenario:

We made reservation & requested to get the very front seats- closest to the beach. The person on the phone said we will get the closest seats to the beach. We asked his name, just in case.
Arrived there just before they opened- double checked with the staff, they said 'just wait'- found out that we couldn't get the front seats. Tell the manager that we talk to . . . (the man on the phone the other day). The manager said the person is not on the roster that day. Then, the manager just didn't bother us at all. We still got a table, but not as requested. VERY DISAPPOINTING & the manager is VERY RUDE.
We could apologize for the first or second of our poor experiences, but no more.

Great place: good food, awesome taste, lively place, amazing view (especially on sunset), good music. Downside, it's full house in the evening (before and after sunset) and on weekend.

Joseph Chen (12/06/2016 12:55)
Service: very passable. Nothing to shout about but definitely far from unpleasant. Food arrived under 15 minutes of order. pleasant view of the ocean and comforting sea breeze.

Technique: Food was grilled and taste was above average. Freshness was decent.

Cost: $ ordered the cheaper set and total cost was less than 20/net per pax for food and drinks.

Overall, value for money. May revisit but personally, would prefer to explore other seafood joints around the Jimbaran locale.

Edgar Iskandar (10/06/2016 12:38)
One rule of thumb: 'if in doubt, go to seafood restaurant that is crowded' holds here. The seafood is super fresh and has reasonable price.

Don't order the package, despite cheap price. Those are not live seafood that's why they are cheap.

Sit outside to enjoy the beach scenery. Be nice to Pak Wayan because he decides when you can sit outside

Donny Setiawan (01/06/2016 23:03)
The most overrated restaurant.
The only good things about is all about place, on the beachside, that's it!
Do not come in the dinner time, if you don't want to get crap on your table (yes I mean it, it is crap, not crab). All cold food, very salty crab, unseasoned bawal fish, tiny little "king" prawn, and even the coconut that we ordered was pathetic, only half filled coconut water, looks like they give you some leftover from another customer, or they don't really know how to open coconut and keep all water inside.
So yeah..this place was good back then, but by the time they are get more popularity, they reduce the quality.
For food lover this is definetely not your place.

Sergei Shvetsov (10/01/2016 04:41)
One of the cheapest seafood restaurants on the beach. Nice sunset if weather is right. Extremely popular, so try to reserve in advance and show up before 5pm. Order your food and drinks right at the entrance for prompt service. Always ask for extra chilly and coconut oil sauce.

The place is an institution, always sold out, so don't expect waiters to fawn over you. New customers will keep coming, whether you enjoyed your meal or not. This often results in lousy service (by western standards).
