I loved this place, stayed in traditional bungalow. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the yoga was a great way to ease into my holiday, breakfast was good, went with the Indonesian breakfasts.WIFI was good. They are currently building more villas so was a bit noisey but didn't bother me much as I was a distance from the construction. Told me it will be completed in 4 months. If you want action this place is not for you but perfect to unwind, relax and recharge. Would go back!

I love the athmosphere here. Back to nature! The hospitality is awsome as well.

A friend of mine booked at Peranakan and because I’ve decided to book later than her, there was only Vana Villa made available during my stay. After much consideration, I’ve agreed to stay in Vana Villa because it is much closer to the pool and to Peranakan where my friend was staying. I was informed that there was a construction going on so they provided me with a map and we weren’t so bothered about it as it wasn’t near Vana Villa.
Upon arrival, without any information provided, we found out that we were placed at Samsara Villa which is at the highest place and quite far from Peranakan and the second pool. They upgraded us without informing us. Reason being was because it was far from the construction which initially, Vana Villa is far from it too. They could’ve upgraded my friend who’s staying in Peranakan because they have a baby and the construction is right in front of the room. So me & my husband decided to downgrade ourselves to stay at another room in Peranakan.
When we arrived, the wifi has been down for two days but they did not inform us. One lady said it’ll be up the following day and the wifi has just been down meanwhile the other guy said that wifi has been down for two days.
On top of that, they stated that there will be a complimentary fruit basket upon arrival but nope, did not receive it. Brought the matter up on the second day and yet, we did not get it.
Overall, all the staff was nice and very pleasant. Food at the restaurant did not meet my expectation. Ambience is nice but they would need some touching up to do here and there. I will not come back that’s for sure.

i am writing this now because I am currently staying here and it is a nightmare... I paid quite a lot of money to stay here hoping to have a bath in the huge bathtub and there was no hot water on arrival..we then waited 2 hours for them to try and change the gas etc ..banging and yelling outside the room still at 9pm..
We were offered a shower in the yoga room / storage area which means i have to walk outside over the grass to have a shower.
I was only offered compensation because I demanded it and then they came back with 30 min massage which i am not interested in.
I asked if they could make this night only half the price as compensation and the lady laughed at me and said its impossible!!
we have done nothing but wait around for hot water.
I am seriously not happy with this hotel..
It is also a lot nicer online than in real life..It needs maintenance.
Its a shame because it could be so beautiful.
I am adding some more to this because it got worse!...
After I managed to organise some compensation to not having hot water in the form of a free dinner at the hotel restaurant ( agreed one main meal each and one drink of beer or wine ) they then had me pay for my 2 next nights.
As we settled into our new room we immediately discovered the toilet was blocked and would not flush. After quite a long while of deciding what to do some staff members came and unblocked it..spilling water all over the floor of the villa..from the toilet!
I later realised that the owner ( a Chinese woman who owns two other resorts in Bali ) was too stingy to get tradesmen in to fix problems with the hotel and instead gets her untrained staff to do jobs that are beyond their knowledge so she can avoid spending more money.
This is reflected in the way she has let a beautiful property diminish over the years.
Her staff are also illegally under paid and they have no way to complain about this due to the corrupt government in Indonesia.
This hotel is not the real Bali..The staff are all friendly lovely Balinese people but the greedy Chinese owner is exploiting them and ripping off her guests.
After our villa toilet was blocked I was informed our "free" dinner to compensate not having hot water was a set menu of beef rendang curry ( obviously the cheapest option ) ..But I do not eat meat..when I told them this and that I had already discussed one main meal of choice and a free drink they denied it. I had already paid for 2 more nights..
They did not believe I did not eat meat!!! they offered me chicken !
So that was it for me..we went and demanded a refund for the next two nights..they did not compensate me for one night in a dirty villa with no hot water.
I would not recommend this villa , partly because we had bad luck with the hot water and the blocked toilet but mostly because the owner is under paying her staff and cutting corners to avoid spending a cent for maximum gain to herself.
The villas are rustic because they are partly outdoors but that doesn't mean a bathtub would not be cleaned.
Also the breakfast is horrible..I will try and add a picture..
A terrible waste of a beautiful property...
Hopefully the Balinese get their hands back on this place one day..
The Yoga in the mornings was good..but this is because the teacher is outsourced and you can find her elsewhere..such as the Jungle rooms next door.

Aside of a few caveats we were very pleased with our experience at Kalapa. First the good stuff:
- The hotel grounds are wonderful. The bottom pool area (there are two pools) and reading area are really incredible and such great spaces to relax.
- The yoga studio and complimentary classes are are a great add-on.
- The hotel restaurant and breakfast were overall great as well. We really enjoyed the local food and plethora of juices.
- The staff were always very kind and attentive.
Some of the reviews we read in advance of our booking say that the hotel would be too far off the beaten path. We didn't agree. Being in Canggu you'll be dependent on a scooter and once you accept that, it doesn't really matter where in Canggu you are (unless you want to be in walking distance to the beach).
We really enjoyed our stay at Kalapa and the only two issues we had were with the design of our room and the wifi.
We stayed in one of the Joglos and simply didn't like the feel of it. At night they're cozy but during the day they're too dark. They also don't 'close' which means when it's windy you'll have the curtains constantly blow through the room which can be a bit jarring.
The biggest problem however was the Wifi (both rooms and common areas). In rare occasions we had a good connection but in most cases the Internet would cut out up to the point that there was no connection whatsoever (we tested ping and speeds with multiple devices). Often we left the hotel to get wifi at a cafe nearby.

Great place to relax and healing. Do some yoga class. You will see and feel nature blended with harmony in this place. Rice field view and riverside. Very recommended!
