On 15th February, my wife and I went on a conducted Ubud Village Tour of Bali with Bali Star Island which we had arranged a couple of weeks beforehand. Prior to booking I researched the small number of customer reviews available, mainly from cruise forums. Despite this we took the plunge based on Bali Star Island’s professional website presentation and efficient communication.
Due to a variety of unrelated issues including a sea swell, tender boat queues and the cruise ship tender boat grounding en-route ashore, we were delayed approximately 2 hours and apprehensively phoned Bali Star Island to verify the tour would still go ahead. Our fears were absolutely unfounded as we discovered our guide, Mr Dediana and separate driver, Mr Made patiently waiting for us.
The tour vehicle was a reasonably new and impeccably clean fully air conditioned MPV. Mr Dediana provided full commentary throughout the tour and fully answered all our questions in detail. Despite a strong accent, Mr Dediana carefully articulated his explanations and ensured we understood everything.
The tour was scheduled to take 8.5 hours and cover a broad spectrum of cultural sites. On the day we visited:
• Gold and silver workshop and gallery;
• Hand painted fabric workshop and gallery;
• A temple;
• A three course lunch to a set menu at a gorgeous restaurant;
• The monkey forest;
• Return to the ship at our request.
We visited most planned sites returning to the ship slightly early at our request due to my suffering from head cold triggered fatigue.
I thoroughly recommend Bali Star Island and will definitely use their services again, more specifically Mr Dediana. Mr Dediana was an excellent guide and provided a superb insight into the Bali culture citing his own personal experiences as examples. We have participated in many conducted tours organised both through the cruise lines and independently, I have to say this tour was one of the best my wife and I have ever taken and represented excellent value for money.
Thank you Bali Star Island for an excellent cultural experience in Bali.
