Man, you should stay on this guesthouse. The best Guesthouse at Bukittinggi. No doubt about it. 👌

Hostel feels like hotel. The owner was very helpful, they have free delicious nasi goreng for breakfast.

Overall this is a good place to stay ( for family or backpackers) clean room, with good view and circumstances, near masjid, not so far to pizza hut and KFC, so many food stall around so you dont have to worry to get some local food .

Not a friendly hostel to local. when we come directly go show without reservation to this hostel, the hostel's staff answered not available because it will be cleaned. Then we asked if there is room available for the next day and they kept saying it was not available. Even when we asked to rent the motorbike, we had the same answers. And there was one staff person who said no to locals people. This makes me very angry to be treated racially rasis by my own nation and they treated us like a criminals even we already told them that we came from Jakarta. This hostel is so western oriented and do not know how to deliver nice reason to the customer.

Probably the cheapest place around and great value for money. Good WiFi in both public space as in the dorm room. Hot shower. When a lot of people stay in the guesthouse you'll get delicious fried rice as breakfast, which is included in the price. Ling, the owner, knows the area well and is very helpful. The only downside for me was the noise of two mosques nearby/across the street doing their morning prayers at 4:30 for 2 hours long.

This hotel is not friendly to local people. We went there directly and met the receptionist - a lady - and asked whether they still have vacant room and she said no room available then i said that what we check on some online booking that the room are still open, then she replied that all vacant rooms will be clean up today, with unfriendly face. Then an old man who might be her husband asked her "what ab tommorow?" then she replied directly to that man that tomorow will be still not available with a mad face. Well, we are Indonesian but we come from Jakarta and having holiday in Bukittinggi, it hurt us so bad when our own people treat us like that. Then when we step out from that hotel i asked again to that lady whether they rent motorbike and she answered "ask that man" pointing to the man who standing just at the entry door and that man who listening to us instantly said that they are not renting the motorbike to local, i replied why? And he Said that the motorbike can be lost if renting to local, whaaattt does my face like a thief to you? What is wrong with local people? If u hv bad experiences with local people doesnt mean u must generalizing all Indonesian. I have been traveling to many countries and for domestic i can say that i am spending more money then any unlocal tourist. Thanks God am not spending my money to the racist and descriminate hotel like this hotel. We went to other hotel nearby and we welcomed nicely, they are padangnese and treat us like brothers. We also find that Gojek motorbike already available in bukittinggi so I thanks God again for not renting motorbike from Hello hotel. Hopefully no other Indonesian will have this experience again.

*add: The respon of this review below doesn't reflect an hotel person at all. funny:)

Great little budget guesthouse close to the center of town. I can thoroughly recommend the scooter tours run by the resident tour operator from the Hello Guesthouse.

Small hotel managed by the owner, clean, safe, low cost, she will help us everythings we need, including looking for driver & car rental to go to the picnic objects, information about transportation, etc.

Has affordable price and was worth for money, free breakfast, free soap not shampoo, FRIENDLY staff, beautiful room and cozy place. Last but not least, the place is really close to Panorama, Jam Gadang, Japan Hole (lobang Jepang), and Up Market.

Linh is the most well organised host and very helpfull. The beds are so comfy and the rooms very clean. Location a bit noisy.

Simple, cheap, clean hotel, friendly owners, and located in the heart of the Bukit tinggi city. The hotel also offers motorbike rental services. Recommended for families and backpackers.

I had a decent sized "Deluxe Room", perfectly clean, good daylight, with private balcony and western style bathroom for 260.000 IDR/night incl. breakfast in April 2017. The bed was very comfortable, hot shower and toilet worked well, towel and paper were readily available (not always the case elsewhere). The room had no cabinet, just some hangers.
The room went right out onto the mosque, which broadcasted preaching or prayer calls from 4.30 or 5.30 a.m. It is quite loud, but the amplification was well controlled and the voice usually not completely over the top. I've had much worse. In that room you can also hear some motorcycles on the road. Internet worked well enough in my room, though it's best between midnight and 5 a.m. when less guests log in. Laundry went to an external service, it was done well, fast and economically.
Ms Ling is a great host. She has oodles of information written on the black board and can always tell you more. She even helped me out when i had already moved to the next destination. All her information was sound, and all her talk was down-to-earth and very clear to the point – somewhat unusual in those parts. After i had made an advance payment, Ling immediately wrote me a receipt; that is unusual in my experience. When she arranged a taxi for me, the price was good and didn't seem to include kickbacks; the driver was professional. There was no pressure whatsoever to take a guide or tour. I rented two different motorcycles from Hello Guesthouse, which were well maintained and at the usual price (60.000 IDR/day).
Besides the mosque, there is one other drawback: The house is locked from 11 p.m. till 6 a.m. At least on Saturdays, Bukittinggi is quite lively after 11 p.m., and all the bars and the central clocktower square with the selfie crowds are nearby; so the curfew seems a bit unlucky.
Apart from these aspects, Hello Guesthouse is a great choice for independent, budget-minded travellers, and i'd certainly choose it again for my next stay.

Nice stay in this Hotel because strategic location in the heart of Bukittinggi, just 10 minutes walk to "Jam Gadang", very cozy, fresh atmosphere, super fast internet wide wifi coverage and nice service

I stayed in the deluxe bedroom, big and nice with a balcony and hot shower. The best is the mattress, new and with duvet. The worst is the loud noise from the mosques around, waking up all the neighborhood at 5am. Airplugs are (almost) mandatory to sleep.

Rubén Asensio Jiménez (21/01/2017 14:26)
It is a very nice place, clean and in the middle of Bukittingi. It only has a negative point, it is very close to the mosque, so everyday I woke up at 4.30 with the speakers for an hour! But this probably happens in every hotel in Bukittingi

Dmytro Voytko (11/01/2017 05:23)
Hostel in good standards, which is rare in this part of Indonesia. English speaking staff, at least some 😊

Very nice and super helpful staff! Ling can help you to do most local attractions (trekking, biking etc...) by yourself. Not only selling tours. True backpacker spirit. Thank you so much!

Ridho Wijoyo (02/05/2015 00:27)
Got (probably) the best room available though a bit noisy from the traffic outside. Nice and clean room. Hot shower is available but a bit difficult to get the perfect setting. Good location. Great value for the money overall

Martin Schibel (26/01/2016 20:02)
Great place to stay in a dorm, but rather expensive
