Look no further if you're looking for the best place to stay and have activities in Bukit Lawang. The owners are very eco responsible and respectful of Bukit Lawang, the people in the village, and the animals in the jungle. I loved my stay here and felt completely comfortable. The rooms are amazing. Happy hour shouldn't be missed. And the location is serene. The WiFi is even strong! Seriously, look no further. And Enda, as a guide, is excellent!

We had a great time with EcoTravel! From the pick up at the airport, to the trek and right up to getting us to the airport on time, the wonderful staff at EcoTravel made every effort to ensure that our trip was as enjoyable, relaxing and enriching as they could. Their cottage was easily the best accommodation around the area and the breakfast was so good! We walked past the kitchen and had a good waft of some really lovely smells, so we asked them if they could whip up whatever they were cooking, and the wonderful disk of local mee goreng that came out was just awesome! The trek itself was very well-managed. Pak Antonio, our guide who has been doing this all his life, was really experienced and safety was top-most on his mind! He taught us to be quiet so we wouldn't scare off the wild-life, was friendly and made jokes to enliven the trek. We even had one more guide follow us at the back as our "bodyguard", and they jokingly said, it's just in case an orang utan swoops in behind us to grab us. I really liked that there was a network of guides scouting the whole area for orang utans, so it was within 30mins before they led us to see our first one! Helped by this network of experienced guides, we went on to see 2 more orang utans up close later on and even saw many other types of gibbons, the Thomas Leaf monkeys and even the elusive Lutung! On our ride to and back, we asked the driver to stop somewhere for food and the 2 places they brought us to were super yummy! All in all, we had a wonderful time and it was largely because we choose to tour with EcoTravel!

Choosing Eco Travel for my Sumatran adventure was the best decision I ever made! From the moment I was collected from the airport, I felt relaxed and welcome and any nerves I had about travelling solo melted away immediately. The team are so friendly that I felt I was among friends straight away. I had one of the smaller rooms but was amazed at how beautiful it was. I didn’t expect luxury in the jungle! The next morning started with a fabulous three course breakfast decorated with flowers and then onto the two day trek to see the orangutans.
The trek was incredible! My first sighting of an orangutan brought tears to my eyes and it only got better from there when we saw these amazing animals in their natural habitat just metres away. I was really impressed with the emphasis on the importance of being eco friendly; our guide collected litter throughout the trek and never made any noises or tried to attract the orangutans attention as I think some tour companies do. They really respect the animals and the forest which was perfect.
The camp site was well set up and the food was exceptional! We had lots of laughs with the team as well as we bounced our way down the river singing the Bukit Lawang song then later we enjoyed singing with their talented musicians.
Visiting the elephants was an amazing experience. Again, I was delighted that Eco Travel put animal welfare first and don’t do elephant riding. So many wonderful memories to take away.
I’ve been travelling all over Indonesia for 6 weeks and my stay in Bukit Lawang was without a doubt, the best experience I’ve had. I cannot recommend Eco Travel highly enough. There is nothing I could possibly change and my only regret is not staying longer. Thank you to Christina, Kembar and all the fabulous team that made my visit so memorable. It was the experience of a lifetime!

The experience that we had with Eco Travel in BukitLawang was among my favorite treks of all time and I have trekked many thousands of kilometers in my life. The kids loved the trip and the guides were very attentive to everyone’s needs. Everyone one was professional and conscientious. I hope I can return to go on an extended trek when the kids are a bit older, we have a 5,7 &14 year old. The jungle and wildlife are phenomenal. What a gem on this earth. I truly wish that the eco travel mission can infect the practices of all tour groups in the region and that the industry is able to protect this essential habitat for such majestic animals for the future generations of humans and others species alike. Thank you everyone at EcoTravel BukitLawang for making our vacation so memorable! Enjoy life!

I didn't stay here, I just did the trek with them, and I had my breakfast there.
What an amazing breakfast! :-D
The 2day trek was also very good

Absolutely perfect! We had 5 people and two guides on our overnight hike. My wife and I are in our mid-50's and the guide helped my wife by taking her backpack over the difficult parts. Our guides were knowledgeable and passionate about the plant and animal life we encountered and shared that knowledge with us. In addition, it was clear that they were super respectful of the orangutans we encountered and briefed us well about how to behave in their presence. They handled every question and request in a helpful and friendly manner. Beyond this, they provided amazing meals and even went so far as to pack in heavy loads of fresh fruit so we wouldn't go without. A+.

Amazing trip with Eco Travel. I am glad they don't feed animals and try to protect the jungle. Everyting was well organised, sleeping conditions in the ungle camping very good with matress and pillow. Higly recommended!

Highly recommend but make sure you're in reasonably good shape!
We opted for the overnight 2 day package.
Hard to express how much we enjoyed the whole experience.
Our guide 'Harry' was fantastic. His passion for the jungle and intimate knowledge of the individual Orangutans was amazing.
All the food provided throughout was tasty and fitting for the jungle backdrop.
The Eco team are brilliant both on and off the trek. The accommodation at the ECO cottage is clean and spacious and perfect for unwinding post trek.
If you visit Sumatra you simply must visit!

Fantastic experience! It was not easy to travel to Bukit Lawang (flight to Meran + approx 4hrs car drive), but once I saw the beautiful lodge, which is truely the nicest accomodation in the village, and I get to know the professional tour guides plus were lucky to saw 19 Orangutans, the hassle was worth it. Your team was super nice and welcoming. Thank you very much!!

We took the three days dschungle trek and it was amazing. First of all, the housing in Bukit Lawang was very comfortable and we had a great view into the dschungle. During our trek we got to see Orang Utans and other kinds of monkeys. The trek was well organized and we felt really secure while trekking with our guide Antonio Banderas. The food was freshly cooked and really good. They took care of everything for us - these are holidays!

My fiance and I have spent 5 amazing days at Bukit Lawang in August this year and all what we can say is a huge THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for this unforgettable experience! Christina, Kembar & the EcoTravel-Team (We love you 'Antonio Banderas'!!!) did their best to make our staying with them the most beautiful part of our holidays... The food was fresh and delicious (even though it was mainly cooked in the middle of the jungle :) ), our jungle guides were so prepared, kind and patient to each one of us from "Team Tiger" (haha), they looked after us so well that even though we were crossing the jungle and we spent a night out there, we felt so pleasant and safe. We were not allowed to feed the animals, what is really something what other local companies should do as well for the welfare and health of those amazing creatures!!! Our "Elephant and Orangutan" room was well cleaned and maintained, the best choice if you don't mind finding cheeky monkeys at your doorstep in the morning! :) The restaurants serve tasty food and lovely jungle drinks at affordable prices. Local people at Bukit Lawang are welcoming and super friendly!
P.S.: We loved our 'bum massage' river rafting back to the hotel... :)
So are you thinking about visiting Sumatra, but you don't know what to see? If you are a big animal lover and you would like to see them in their natural habitat, don't miss Bukit Lawang out - the 'Gate of the Jungle'!!! :)

Don't misunderstand, the place is superb and the room is the best among the others, but the staffs are not quite professional, when we got there they asked us to wait for more than 30 minutes, plus another one hour to solve unimportant matter.
At first they didn't allow my children (1 y.o. and 8 y.o.) to stay because they said it's over-capacity! I've never got into this kind of situation before, because from all hotels I've been stayed all my life, none ever counted children under 12 as additional guests! They asked me to find another extra room in another hotel because they're full, but I didn't agree, we came as a family and we prefered to stay together, of course. They blamed me for not confirming before how many guests including children, but I said how could I know I should inform that I brought extra children, while as far as I know all other places doesn't require so? After suggesting to the staffs that I wanted to talk directly to their boss and they agreed, finally they accepted all of us to stay here with an additional extra bed charge. But unfortunately we have missed the sunset and swimming time in the river, it's already been 7.30 pm when they finally allowed us to enter our rooms, my children were so tired and I felt like our holiday has been ruined.
Another thing, I believe they differ the service they give to local and international tourists, for example they didn't offer me the pickup service from the parking lot (fyi the parking lot is 20-30 minutes walk from the hotel), while I knew from the staffs they usually offer it to their guests.
Sorry, I'm really disappointed with this hotel!

The place is excellent. Next to the river. Very friendly staff, super location.

The Eco Travel Cottages are two beautiful buildings, directly located at the riverside. When I arrived, the first thing I said was: "I would like to stay here forever!" :-) The houses look very special cause they connect the local Bohorok style and bavarian design and they are constructed with love for small details. The rooms are large and with an entrance to the garden, to the sun terrace and an unique river view. Here I found the most comfortable beds in 7 months of travels, with a lot of pillows, the perfect mattress and a princess-style mosquito net :-). Everything is super clean and was decorated with fresh flowers when I arrived. The staff was super friendly and always caring about me and tried to fulfill all of my wishes. The breakfast was delicious, especially the self-made bread and the fresh fruits. In the afternoon, I was hanging out in my hammock and drinking one of their delicious fresh prepared juices or cocktails…and the cappuccino was the best I could find in the whole village! My 2 days jungle trek was an unforgettable experience, organized by the Eco Travel Cottages. Their guides were very experienced, caring, entertaining and super trustworthy. When we were watching several animals or plants, we got a lot of interesting information and all of our questions could be answered. We slept on night in a camp close to the river and even there, we got a great service, delicious food, fresh fruits, coffee, tea - and more. The night in the jungle was more comfortable than expected cause there were no disturbing insects, it was warm and the sleeping places were clean, protected and quite comfortable. After we came back from the jungle trek by wheel-rafting on the river, all of us were happy and so grateful for this experience!

Absolutely the best place for me to see the jungle animals in there natural habitat. We have see the orang utang 2 x in one day. What a nice day that was. We had to walk for 3 hours in the jungle. Climbing up and down hill. So take good shoes with you. And don't go on your slippers like I did.

Wir hatten ein wunderschönes Honeymoon-Zimmer mit Blick über den Fluss in den Dschungel. Manchmal hat sich da sogar ein Orang Utan gezeigt... Wahnsinn!
