Great way to view wild Orang Utan. Best experienced with a clear day.

Bukit Lawang is one of the most wonderful and friendly spots in Sumatra. When hiring a guide ask for one with experience and knowledge of the area and the natural heritage of the region. Your guide should know not only how to spot orangutans, but also to respect them. The trek in the forest can be very hard on a rainy day, pack your water and enjoy the the huge variety of mushrooms and other species around.
Use good shoes, and remember to keep some comfortable and dry clothes at your hotel/hostel. The food is no problem there, you can find fantastic dishes and nice vibe at the end of the day in some restaurant/hostels.

A great place to trek around and check out the orangutans! Many of the guides allow you to go a lot closer than you should and we saw other people touching the orangutans, which we read can mean they catch human diseases (like colds) and isn't good for their rehabilitation, so just watch out that you aren't doing things that actually makes it harder for the orangutan to flourish.
