" A nice hike that's not too strenuous.

If you are looking for an easy hike this one is for you. It's not too steep or long and it's completely shaded by tree canopy. The trail itself is free but you do pay a small bit for parking. The main path is wide and made of rough concrete so its safe even when wet from rain. The main path also doesn't include stairs so they are safe for almost anyone. Going at a normal pace I think it took around an hour round trip. The scenery is made up of thick vegetation with an occasional monkey or squirrel sighting.

All and all this was a pleasurable side trip if you have the extra time for a hike "

" Singapore highest hill. Good spot for nature lovers and hikers. Saw 1 iguana, 2 snakes, 2 monkeys along the pathways. The quarry forms a beautiful scenery, a spot to go to when you are there. Reconnect with nature. Nearest MRT: Beauty World. "

" The initial climb from the visitor centre is steep up a perfect concrete small road. An alternative is the signed 'Rock path' which winds up next to the main path to the right.
No view at the top like others have said but at least you can say you walked to the highest point in Singapore! "

" An excellent trail! The forest canopy provides the cover you need from sun and rain. Bring at least 600ml of water - you will lose a lot in perspiration ascending the summit. The paths are clearly demarcated. The steps are mixed between steel and railway ties. The grade is relatively steep when following the non-tarmac trail, so expect to get a great interval workout, regardless of you walk or jog. A little advice: take your headphones off if you’re accustomed to running or walking with music on - the Natural sounds coming from the forest surrounding you needs to be appreciated. I believe it makes it more enjoyable. "

" Singapore highest hill at 163.63m. Reaching visitor centre at the foot of the hill by car and there's parking lots available. Runners/ trekkers loves to do it via macrithie reservoir and going along rifle range road before reaching Bukit timah nature totally about 12-13km. Be prepared that OR will be packed with people during weekends, seeing highest number of visitors at about 9-11am. The first 200m or so of climb is very steep (a good hiking or running shoes with good traction will come in handy especially if it is raining) after which the slope gets a bit gradual.. Half way up the summit, you can choose to do it via the main route or do it via stairs. As it a nature park please be aware of snakes especially the blue coral snakes which is extremely venomous. There's vending machine and toilets sigh water coolers at the visitor centre. Gentle reminder, please do not feed the monkeys and do not leaves any rubbish behind. Remember LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND AND TAKE NOTHING AWAY! When u are around nature. 😊 "

" A great place if you want to be a part with nature. I would definitely go early in the morning because if it is hot, it gets really hot since the space is quite opened. You can really walk far too! "

" Nice place for morning stroll. I don't work out regularly so I did not take the stairs to reach summit.. the main path is not difficult. The starting slope is tiring but it's worth trying. :) "

" This is a great place to spend your lazy day and get to sweat out by hiking the trails. My personal favorite is the dairy farm loop, which includes a moderate share of uphill and downhill through the uneven steps.

Steps might be too steep for small children. "

" My heart yearns for the gentle shades of its trees, the scent of the tropical rainforests, the sounds of its fauna and the soothing effect it offers for my tired soul. A definite must to those who loves or just want to experience Singapore's nature.

Be in one with nature, right before here in Singapore. "

" Good workout if you include the dairy farm route as well, but need to redo certain treks to clock a longer distance or training for a climb. Best nature reserve in Singapore. "

" One of my favorite places in Singapore. This is in the center of the Central Catchment Reserve (which includes MacRitchie Nature Park and the reservoirs). There are a lot of trails here for hiking and also some tough trails for serious mountain bikers. It can get a bit crowded during the weekends as this is a favourite exercise destination for locals. I have trekked all the trails in here and also managed to catch some awesome wildlife photos. Unfortunately, the "Rock Trail" has been closed due to erosion (since I got to Singapore last year, and up until this writing). "

" The kampong trail is a good memories of 1950s where it shows how our pioneer's living.. some old structure still remain.. want to have a forest bathing? I think this is the best location in Singapore. I have been here twice a week, lovely place. "

" Always a fun outing for families, joggers and trekkers alike. Bird watchers, not so much. There are multiple paths that you could embark on ranging from "easy" to "difficult". After the restoration work in around 2015-2016, trekking is made much safer now with reinforced concrete slabs along the path to prevent soil corrosion. Safer doesn't mean it's easier though, depending on which path. For the challenged, there's a Rock Path that looks like you're going down (or up) a cliff. At this time of writing (nov-17) that path is closed, so do check beforehand if that's your main purpose of visiting BTNR.

Cave Path takes you past 2 "cave" entrances, which look like they're locked and not accessible. Hopefully it will be opened to public in future. "

" It is a nice place for relax. Doesn't require too much energy to accomplish the whole journey. Very family friendly place. The only downside is too crowded. ;) "

" Very good tracking activity for entire family. Different type of path for different levels of challenge. Fresh air and great view when you eventually reach the ridge line. Fellow trackers are friendly as well. Saw bikers there as well. Apparently there is a bike route too. "

" Very nice trails.
Not too far/hard for parents with young kids who are over 4 or 5.
Also a good place to see how people maintain natural environment which is so close to urban. "

" A great hiking place for young and old. We went with a 7yo and a 71yo! There are different trails for different level of fitness. The trails are well kept and clean. We had a fantastic family bonding time with nature! "

" It has many side routes and map shows clearly where you are stands don't worry about being lost. Many hikers, families, even trail running are here. Nice for 2 hours you can do it all. You will see some lizards or monkey, butterflies, many species of trees. The hike to the top was closed during my time, ask if you don't want to waste your time, but the view over the quarry was nice, partial view. "

" Great place to enjoy original forest in Singapore and doing some easy trek. There is many path, divided by difficult. Each one would take around 1.5 hour. Since paper map are not given due to ecology reason, just take a pic of the park map at the entrance.
All along the path there's many road sign and map so it will be easy to walk through any path you will choose. "

" Great Natural Habitat and nature's best gift of natural gym. A timeless piece of nature with more species in its small area than the entire North American Contient. "

" Lovely trail for a day's hangout. The trail was better earlier than the renovated steps. "

" Well maintained trails. Part of the Dairy Farm trail is currently closed due to damage. Look out for the Wallace Heritage Trail, good exhibition for the little ones "

" Recently revamped boardwalk makes it much safer for families to explore off the tarmac road up the hill. Great place to get some exercise, although parking is extremely challenging on the weekends / public holidays. "

" Excellent place for hiking, with reinforced steps and boardwalks where needed to protect the soil and tree roots. There are numerous shaded forested trails and paths with varying levels of challenges in terms of slopes. Thoroughly enjoyed my workout! "

" There's a at least 4 routes to Bukit Timah Hill Summit. 2 easy routes, 1 moderate and 1 difficult. A nice place to be close to nature. It can be quite crowded in the weekend. Car park space is limited. Suggest that you take public transport or you have to park your vehicle illegally on small roads nearby. "

" Visited today for a short hike after it reopened lately. It was pretty crowded as it was a Sunday. It's convenient and easy to reach via the Downtown line. From Beauty World station, it's 10-15mins walk tot the visitor centre. The hike to the peak is similar to prior renovations, via a concrete slope in the beginning. From there, we continued towards Dairy Farm area, which was a pleasant route, not so crowded. Saw some monkeys along this route too! "

Clara Lee

" The walk up and back took roughly the better part of an hour and a half. Met a small group of monkeys and several large spiderwebs along the way. There aren't really much scenic views apart from the forest of trees that stand upright, towering over you as you continue the trek. The upwards sloping of the trail might not be for everyone, some parts are rather steep and could be cause for worry. Overall, a decent weekend outing or an exercise routine for most.

" I was expecting to see wild animals and lots of nice views. Unfortunately, I saw none of that. If you are looking for a hike, this is a great place to be challenged thanks to its steep terrain. Just don't expect nice views or spotting wild animals. "

" The Nature Reserve is great for a weekend trek. There are various difficulty levels and the longest should be about half a day or so. Bring your own water bottle and snacks if you need. Visit all the viewpoints as some of them are a treat for those of us who are used to the city skyline. "

" Nice place to see nature, with lots of bio-diversity.
Ideal for a walk, jog or cycling. "

" Starts off with a steep gradient slope initially. Then plateaus off for an easier stretch before the final climb up a 200m ladder of steep steps that will test your quads! The summit is pleasant and cool in the shade. The hubris surrounding this hill is well deserved. "

Frank Fang

" You start with a rather steep slope, then it gets easier. Saw some runners here. Broke a sweat here. "

" Beautiful park. If you like jogging / walking it is for you. No special events "

17 June 2016

Kanghao Yu

" There is a paved route straight to the summit and a network of trails that branch off from that route. A mountain biking trail also encircles the hill. Dairy Farm Quarry to the rear of the hill is definitely worth a visit if you have a couple of hours to spare. Alternatively, drive straight to the carpark at the rear of the reserve and walk five minutes to the Quarry. "

Nathaniel Ng Li Wen,

" One of the largest and oldest nature reserves in Singapore, also boasting the highest hill in Singapore. This is a place if you want to be one with nature. Wanting more excitement! There's a mountain biking trail which will put your physical prowess to the test! "

18 May 2016

Trabble Explorer

" Hike on Singapore's highest hill thanks to several trails in the reserve. Take a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city in the tropical rainforest here. The reserve is currently under renovation works. "
