" Untuk mencapainya, dari Pantai Teluk Penyu, kita belok ke kanan kemudian lurus terus sampai pojok. Kita dapat menemukan berbagai peninggalan benteng pada zaman dulu. Konon katanya terdapat terowongan yang menghubungkan antara benteng pendem dengan pulau Nusakambangan di seberangnya. "

" Very good place with historical monuments. I had been in the late evening and there's no lighting to see. The place is closed when it becomes dark. "

" Benteng Pendem (Indonesian for "Buried Fort"; Dutch: Kustbatterij op de Landtong te Tjilatjap) is an abandoned Dutch fortress in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, which has become the region's main tourist attraction. Built between 1861 and 1879, the fortress originally served to defend the important port of Cilacap, though after a series of changes in ownership it fell into disrepair in the 1960s. In 1987 it was opened to the public.

The pentagon-shaped site covers 6.5 hectares (16 acres), and consists of both original buildings – including barracks, a clinic, and a prison – as well as several later additions. It is a Cultural Property of Indonesia. "

" Refreshing experience for us. Rent a boat to see Nusa Kambangan island, but didn't land on it. Hot in the afternoon, prepare sunblock, hat, sunglasses, and also scarf (to protect from the wind). Not many trees that can provide cool spot to park our car. "

" Lovin it especially the ones you have to take the boat ride to see it, its still naturaly preserve and interesting piece of Dutch colonization fort which i believe to stop pirates or british ships going to Indonesia (i am not historian so its just my opinion judging by the way its positioned) "

" Only with five thousand you can entry here, I think it's very historical but there is no information center or booklet that can inform us what actually it is. Better there is guides, so we are not only see the historical building but also the history behind that. A poor maintenance, the sign is broke everywhere.. "

" A famous historical place in Cilacap beach line. Benteng Pendem literally means buried fortress. It built during Portuguese occupancy. The site is good and well maintained. There's also a fortress lies in Nusakambangan island as well. "
