In Indonesia and other low-income countries solid waste services are often carried out by various service providers. Usually, these providers operate independently or are only partially or temporarily integrated. Frequently, they use unconnected supply and value chains. These supply and value chains are typically fragmented and brittle. Wastewards seeks to integrate supply and value chains and allow equal access of different service providers to a shared system. By setting basic standards for waste handling and by monitoring registered services in the shared system, Wastewards intends to enhance continuity and resilience of supply and value chains in solid waste management in Indonesia. This will increase acceptance and willingness of residents to participate in source separation and to use solid waste services. Service allocation and supply and value chain maintenance will be managed through a web- and mobile app-based platform.
