The Bali International Spa Academy is an award winning spa, massage, wellness and aesthetics school and training center in Sanur, Bali. 30 September 2017I attended two 5 day courses over 2 weeks at BISA in September. The 2 trainers I had for 5 days Bamboo massage training (Dani) and 5 days Warm Stone massage training (Eny) were both fabulous teachers: both knowledgeable about their subject material and kind and patient in their manner and teaching methodology. I didn't expect to be the only student in the class - which in some ways was great as I got one to one tuition for 2 weeks, but also meant there wasn't the usual group interaction, or opportunity to practice on other students, that I have experienced on other courses. So if your preferred learning style is in a group setting do check whether it's a group or solo class before you book.
The school is clearly very professionally managed and the course designed to meet International standards (or in this case British standards as the examining bodies BISA has chosen are the British examiners CIBTAC and VCTC). Having done most of my massage training in India and Thailand - where there was little theoretical training and no written examinations - this wasn't important to me but I can see how some students starting out in the profession would value courses that are internationally accredited.
The school was very understanding about my twice changing my mind about which course I wanted to do in the second week (I had originally signed up for the Body Scrubs and Wraps course, but asked to switch to Balinese massage when I arrived in Bali and realised that in room washing facilities would be needed for such treatments.. and then I changed my mind again when my Bamboo massage teacher extolled the virtues of the Warm Stone course). So thanks, guys, for being so flexible and accommodating!

" The graduates here seem to be many in the spa that has won 5 Stars and spa awards all over the world. There are exams at the end of every week, practical skills are rounded by one hour, there are treatments, written exams and practical response tests. I am the only Japanese. People gathering here are just lovely people.

ここに集まる人は素敵な人ばかり！
こちらのスクールはクォリティーが高いです。レッスンはマンツーマンかモデルが居て、先生のデモンストレーション、実際にゲストをお迎えして英語での接客、セッションをします。先生達はとても綺麗な英語で話します。毎週末に試験があり、テキストの内容全て丸暗記しての技術テスト、理論のペーパー試験、質疑応答試験。テキストも英語です。
優しいくて、思いやりのある先生に当たるとラッキーだし、素晴らしい想い出に。
もし意地悪な先生に当たると勉強がハードなだけに大きなストレスになるでしょう。
日本人は私一人です語学力上げたい方には◎いろんな国のお友達が出来た。ランチも情報交換も出来て良い時間を過ごせました。毎週試験なので、チリ人の女の子がナーバスになっていたり不安も有りましたが無事合格しました。 "
