" Amazing! The best value for money in Simelue, and in front of the best peak of the island. Really good food, clean and super friendly stuff. Stayed with my wife for 8 days and we loved it! "

" First time staying at a surf camp in Indonesia, and Ranu, who owns and operates his namesake camp, exceeded all of my expectations. First off, full disclosure: I am not an expert or even an intermediate surfer -- I am a beginner. The wave 100 feet from Ranu's camp is for intermediates and better - my friends, who are pretty damn good surfers, said it was a consistent, clean, well-shaped wave. I watched them and other really good surfers kick ass and come in smiling day after day. For beginners like me, it's too close to the rocks. But if you know what you're doing, it's a great place to be. Surfers from other camps around the island migrated to Ranu's -- but being just 100 ft from the break gave my friends a couple of hours in the water in the morning before others showed up. As for the camp, lodgings were excellent - electricity, fans, running water, internet (off and on), clean sheets and towels, mosquito nets, nice porches, chairs, surfboard racks, etc. Services also top notch: food was excellent: fresh fruit and coffee before you go out in the morning, omelets or pancakes when you return for breakfast; nasi goreng, burgers, for lunch; grilled Spanish mackerel one night, steaks the next, buffalo rendang, then grilled slipper lobsters for our last night; ice cream and fruit desserts after lunch or dinner, depending on the day. I was never hungry and the meals were top quality, served roadhouse style with the other surfers in the camp, which gave us a chance to get to know each other. When our boards didn't arrive for two days (damn you, Wings Air!), Ranu lent us boards to use. He also pestered the airline to make sure our boards got there priority. Scooters to get us around the island were no extra charge. When I wiped out on the scooter and dinged one of the boards, he declined my offer to pay for the damage, saying instead that he was glad I wasn't hurt. When the camp wasn't full, instead of having us double-bunk like we were planning, he let us each have half a cabin to ourselves. The staff were great, especially Josh, who instead of just telling us how to get to other surf spots actually took us there himself and hung out. I'd give this place six stars if I could. Worth every penny for the surf, location, service, friendly vibe, and lodging. Hope to go again someday soon. Simeuelue is an authentic Indonesian experience - no tourist throngs, no shopping, no crowds. Just villages, beautiful coastline and jungle, and excellent surf. And Ranu's is the place to enjoy it all. "
