Not much fabric collections as i expected in a placed called a museum.. Most of all very difficult to reach. As it is located in the most notorious traffic in Jakarta. Tanah Abang.. OMG.. The traffic is crazy..

Very helpful place and great experience. The people working demonstrated the process well. They were then super helpful, but still let the project be mine.

Used to be a french guy villa during the collonialism/ Batavia era now turned into museum. Enjoy the beauty of the finest Indonesian textile craftmanship. Some of the collections are rare. Located near Tanah Abang the famous market in Central Jakarta. This museum is an oasis in the middle of Jakarta crowds and traffic.
In the backyard you can learn about the plants/trees that used for the natural dyes.
They also have batik painting class for beginners.
Good for family/ children.

A nice building with front & back yard adopting André Notre garden. A tranquil place in bustling and impossible crowded market. The Museum always has exceptional, well curated textile (and beyond) exhibition.

To be more precise... Batik Museum. Plenty of information over Batik style, region & history.

Good place to visit where you can make your own batik and learn the history of different traditional textile products of Indonesia. However, trash bin is quite hard to find although the place is generally clean and well kept. Almost all the sign boards are in Indonesian so it might be hard for international tourists to understand.

I visited last 2015, and I enjoyed walking inside this museum. I was able to reflect how Batik fabric permeates in Indonesian culture, and was able to make a mark in the world. I was also lucky to have experienced batik making at the back of the museum, and be guided by friendly local artists who are also doing their batik cloths. It made me realize why an original batik is expensive, because it really need constant practice, a steady hand, and a creative mind to be able to make one. Superb experience, thanks Textile Museum!

The museum displays a wide array of Indonesian traditional textile and the history/stories behind them. You can also see some tools used to create those textiles, including those to make weaving and batik.

They have a lot of batik collection. They informed me that we have to take care of batik in different ways. Some batiks have to be kept inside a glass box. We can't take a picture without permission because of the light effect... the best thing here is yhat I can learn how to make a batik
