The museum need to renew and add their collection.... But overall, the place is clean, calm and worth to visit with your family, specially young children. Entrance fee is also cheap so it is affordable for everyone to come and enjoy it.

The staff were extremely friendly. Place is huge and filled with amazing puppets, rich with history and knowledge about them. I was the last person to be touring the place, staff was extremely patient with me. Waited for me to look at everything I wanted to see. I felt bad and kept apologising but staff kept insisting I took my time. Lovely place. Amazing people.

It was an eerie but awesome experience seeing strange looking dolls inside the museum, and I felt like a kid again. I was also was able to watch a shadow puppet show which conveys Indonesian values, music and culture. It felt like I'm time traveling to their local villages where it was played. The ticket is cheap, the staff are friendly and helpful, and I think you can make your own puppet. There's also a souvenir shop inside, and a clean toilet as well.

There are English-speaking guides who are clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the displays - wish there was more information on how to engage them for guided tours. There's potential for being a truly unique museum of puppet dolls from around the world, if a better visitor experience could be provided. Unfortunately the facilities and displays are rather run-down and the visual presentation of information is lacking. It's a pity.

Interesting to see the puppets from all over the world.
We booked a private tour and a visit with the puppet master.
The kids got to see what it takes to make puppets, a very complex and difficult process.
We had a private puppet show. It was very enjoyable and adapted to us.
At the end we purchased some beautiful masks and some puppets.
This was a highlight of our trip to Jakarta and I highly recommend it.

If you love puppet, you should visit here, a lot of collections, live wayang show also available, not sure daily basis or just weekly basis. What I think, this place need some museum professional touch, not just become tourist attraction, but more to save historic culture, how to put the label correctly, cleaning it, maintain it to the highest possible level.

There's a lot of wayang (puppet) collection in good condition with different ages. This collection comes from all over Indonesia and International which have their own puppet story.

Museum wayang is located in Kota Tua. It's a really interesting little place to visit with a mixture of the wonderful puppets that are so renowned throughout the world and some histories behind.

Very old building. Spooky. Many different kind of wayang (puppet) doll and music traditional. But nice to visit this place with friends too. Note for the staff, please add more jakarta city map.

Very nice museum location, in historical Old Dutch Town but Museum itselfs is just average. Is good to go and see it, but you would be not very impressed. Its took me 20 min. to go around and I thing it was enough. There is no guide in this museum, no brochure so you will just walk around.
asri primandari (13/02/2017 04:55)
Not only shows the story of "indonesian wayang" but also some wayang from other countries. Good for educating the children about culture especially wayang.
Anggy Denok Sukmawati (06/02/2017 00:35)
It's a recommended place to go with families. But the second floor is a little creepy and dark.
Galih Dwi Putranto (20/01/2017 06:56)
It depict Indonesian puppet show (wayang) very well. They have various wayang from all over the country, you can see different styles in it. They also have international puppets.
Burhan Brown (21/09/2016 09:40)
Somewhat interesting but like other museums in Jakarta just a bit flat and run down. The puppets were really cool but displays lacked the love you'd expect when celebrating your own culture.
Pandu Dewanto (04/08/2016 13:48)
Nice place..little bit dark inside..there are lot of kind of wayang from all over indonesia.

In this museum you can visits the beauty of Indonesia's culture, especially about wayang/shadow puppets. The building is historic, but inside the building you can see something modern.
Argya P. Budihandojo (07/06/2016 14:13)
This place have lots of collection of dolls amd puppets from around Indonesia and around the world. An Indonesian-speaking tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour. However, it's a bit humid inside, so they need to add more air conditioners
Shita Rahutomo (18/05/2016 03:21)
You can visit all museum in kota tua. One of them is museum wayang (puppet). You can find puppets in different representation. Good show case. My kiddos love this museum. Cheap entrance ticket. U can go by transjakarta, KRL (train), mikrolet or gojek.
Andre Christian (15/05/2016 07:34)
History of Indonesian puppet. Their collection include wayang, traditional Indonesia puppet made from buffalo skin, to more modern puppet such as Unyil that have their own show in national television. They display their collection very neatly. They also sometimes hold a traditional puppet show. Very recommended museum to go
Dian M Prima (21/04/2016 12:29)
Good place to know about wayang. But also they need to consider about the light setting. It is too dark and not much info will be got
I Made Ari Ardiana (28/01/2016 03:16)
This museum has collection of wayang and other dolls in the world. even they have their own set of gamelan. The location of the museum is in the kota tua (old town area). You simply can't miss it. The inside of wayang museum is hot in some area, but don't worry there are air conditioner inside of it.
