On Tuesdays mornings there are English (or other ) speaking guides. They can tell much more about the objects in this museum then the small cards in the vitrine. Nice story’s about the widespread culture of Indonesia.

Not accessible, that's the first thing i catch. There is no explanation for blind people or custom designed show area for wheel chair users. And the entrance is not accessible as well. For a renovated building, they supposed to consider universal design, as it is part of government building.

The museum has a lot of interesting items from all over Indonesia. But I feel they could have taken a better care of the items and the presentation of it. But... it is definitely better than Jakarta History Museum (also known as Museum Fatahillah).

Enjoyed our visit to the National Museum of Indonesia. The size of the museum is good. You can easily cover it in a few hours. The artifacts display the history of the country well and are very beautiful. Could use a little better lighting throughout the museum and on the exhibits. Make sure and take the lift to the 4th floor where the gold artifacts are presented.

Good effort from local government, facilities are maintained and very good place to take your kids. Living in jakarta, there are not many educational places to visit but this place is good for that purpose

Simran Nanwani (17/04/2018 04:59)
This Museum has many wonderful and interesting artifacts to explore. The building is 300+ years old built by Batavia Society during Dutch Colonial period. Free English guides by Indonesian Heritage Society are available from Tuesdays, Wednesdays at 10:00 am, Thursdays at 10:00 am & 13.30 pm and Saturdays at 10:00 am. Enjoy a lovely tour and walk around the museum and learn something about Indonesia!

Have best experience here, though building A the historical one had renovation till July 31, so we explore the new building, usually when you are on public place, all facilities broken such as water, public restroom, elevator, etc. But not this one. The keep it in good shape, the collections really nice to see and maintained well. Good job

I had a bit bigger expectations from a National Museum, however it is worth of visit and the entrance fee is peanuts. I hoped to learn more about our joined ancestors, but they seem to love the ceramics more than that. However again - a nice visit for an hour and a lovely café for the final touch.

Located at the centre of Jakarta.
Easy to visit because there is a bus station in front of the place.
Represent some culture from som place in Indonesia.
The buildings mix old and modern architecture.
Clean place.

Exhibition A under renovation and will be available for public open on August 2018. After access granted at ticketing counter then we may proceed at level 1 for witnessing the ancient stone age. less point here was fossil for ancient human skulls were replica not original. Many original remnant and our great ancestor left properties displayed at 4th floor where stone, statue, dager, ceramics showing various period shown here. Great piece of history to learn about prehistory life.

Very cheap ticket, the building is lit bit old but spacious, and lots of things in clean and neat. Diorama too, we're in good condition and well designed. It's just like mix of history with modern art here. Good place to learn Indonesian diversity.

Nur Saban alif (03/11/2017 15:05)
Only B structure is accessible, because A is undergoing renovation and C is currently under construction. Better go before 3pm because it has limited work hours.

Jacob Hall (29/10/2017 13:14)
Good and clearly in the process of getting better. The reliance on dated theories of human evolution are regrettable, but the upper floors focused on the historic era are much better, not surprisingly the best I have seen in Indonesia.

Paul Thomson (29/10/2017 12:00)
Museum was great and the English-speaking Tour was amazing (Thank You!)
If you're English speaking, definitely try to get the tour. When we were there, it was 10am on a Saturday.

Kiki Richardus (15/08/2017 06:33)
So many exciting heritage object from prehistoric to kingdom era. The environment are so comfort and clean. Equipped with electronic information, elevator, automatic escalator, clean toilets and cafe. Recommended for tourist.

Tamtomo Daniswara (14/08/2017 06:17)
The wonderful National Museum has 140,000 objects. Where to start? Well, check for free English tours or just go straight to the stunning Han Dynasty ceramics display that dates back to 300BC.

Rebecca Levara (05/08/2017 08:10)
Currently the old building is in construction process. But the new building that I entered was much better that before. Definitely enjoyed my trip there. But it would be much better if the multimedia screen was on, and the cleanliness of the toilet should be improved also.

Omar Murad (30/07/2017 09:12)
A major section of the museum was closed, but I only get informed about this after paying. Then there is no clear Information employees. When I asked about a specific item in the museum they tell me to go back to a section I have already checked, but then to be informed later that the item is in the closed section! The museum is not well let and organized. There are some nice items if you don't mind getting very close to the signs just to be able to read them. Filthy toilets!

maria krisnasari (05/07/2017 15:20)
Nice place, especially the installation art in front of the museum and the garden. The arrangement and layout could be created based on theme to give clear description and story that attracts visitors. For instance, per floor depicts the era or the culture evolution per region. What are displayed at the moment are random. We'll see the stones inscribed are displayed with metal artefacts which were from different era.

Farraas Muhdiar (09/06/2017 13:58)
One of the biggest and best museums in Jakarta, for sure. Ticket price is only 5000 for locals. The collections are quite vast, from skeletons to jewelry. A must-visit!!

iman prastyo (03/06/2017 17:50)
One of the best museum in Indonesia
It has various collection related to historical culture, art, science and technology. If you like to explore museum you'll speed a whole day to enjoy

Raihan Aulia (22/05/2017 19:28)
Probably the best museum in Indonesia. This museum, being Indonesia's national museum, has a vast amount of collections. Staff service are great. There's an expansion project ongoing, so expect some minor disturbances.

Sofi Siti Shofiyah (15/04/2017 10:22)
It is a really nice museum, compare to other Indonesian museum. Record all the Indonesian tradition since prehistory until now. The museum should upgrade more interactive guide for tourist.

Elmo Wolfe (07/04/2017 11:52)
Great place to learn! Not only for children, but also grown ups! It's on a very easy access if you used the Trans Jakarta bus, or you can take the free bus from Plaza Indonesia. They have a marvellous collection!

Yulia Rahmawati (01/04/2017 15:10)
Good place to educate. Not only for children, but also for teenage and adults. Many educative information about prehistory age until modern age in the world and in Indonesia. Have a very cheap ticket price.

Happy Ferdian (29/03/2017 05:56)
I think this is the best national museum so far, which has good collection of national treasure, such as pre-history stuff, Hinduism artefacts, colonial goods, ceramics, and so much more. The museum also has a smart route for visitors to enjoy all collection without worry of missing something. Also, the great thing that museum offers to visitors is about its cheap ticket and good air conditioning building.

Ahmad Syahid (02/02/2017 03:08)
Quite unfortunate the main wing was closed for renovations until 2019, but it was quite nice where it remained open.
Tours throughout the museum are freely available, given by what looks like high school students. They spoke really well, a rarity in Indonesia.
The exhibits are good, but sometimes lack any description. It would be nice to know the context of the artifacts rather than just marvel at ancient craftsmanship.
The gift shop in the basement is sorely lacking in souvenirs, which is unfortunate considering how good the rest of the museum is.

Malindo Marpaung (31/01/2017 13:36)
The most comfortable museum in Jakarta. Love all the collection. It show Indonesia comprehensively. Very recommended!

Meriana Chen (18/01/2017 16:01)
A real national museum..showing culture, history, art of different sides of Indonesia. Good place to visit for students to not just see what they have learned from history book but also more that are not in the lesson. The new building is a nice place to relax while you can see many things, so many things also in the old building but needs more maintenance. You can walk from monas and there are also free buses for nearby tour in front of the building.

Ade Putu Dilarse (29/12/2016 17:44)
It was a really astonishing experience even for me, a truly born and raised Indonesian. I'd really like to describe this as Little Indonesia, which foreigners and locals alike can understand Indonesia in a couple of hours. My favorite was the Statues Garden located after the lobby, you can see the richness of Indonesian statues and sculptures from the era of Hindu-Buddhist era, reminds you what this country was.

Kurleigh Martin (03/12/2016 13:01)
There's an English tour most days that's truly amazing. Volunteers run this completely pro bono to share their knowledge. I'm truly chuffed that I got to attend. The entrance fee is also quite reasonable and the exhibits are spectacular

Vincentius Valdi (08/09/2016 07:59)
I'm proud to say that Museum Nasional or Museum Gajah is the biggest museum in ASEAN. It is now under renovation to make the musem even bigger than before. If you want to learn about Indonesia, this is the place for it :)

Fara Agatha (06/09/2016 14:45)
All the details of Indonesia. Come here then visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, you've already gone around the archipelago. however, this museum has currently not been updated, as Irian Jaya is still mentioned as one of the provinces, although it has changed to Papua.

John Hyde (03/09/2016 03:17)
Loved this. Cheap entry, unlike Thailand, same price for foreigners. Brilliant displays of Buddhist, Hindu, Arabic artefacts. Best part is the regional diversity showing the housing, clothing, implements of wonderful Indonesia. Kind of cool to sit in the cockpit of an Indonesian built plane.

Efi R (21/08/2016 15:33)
Many collections of artifacts. If you are into this kind of things, you'll love the place. Need some improvement in provinces area, could be more alive. Like in Central Java area, it would be nicer if the tv showing wayang show could be bigger. So people could sit and watch it comfortably since the screen is big.

Daniel Prabowo (17/06/2016 02:22)
Good place for vacation... Nyaman Dan gampang dijangkau dengan bus way

Anugerah Agungputranto (27/05/2016 05:36)
More famously known as "Museum Gajah" - indicated by the small elephant statue located in its front lawn, the museum offers an insight to the history of Indonesia and it's many cultural heritage.

The museum and all of its exhibits have gone through many improvements over the years, and with the expansion in the new building, the museum is better than ever.

Exhibits on the older part of the museum somewhat lacks information that could enlighten visitors of its significance, however and thankfully, most of the other exhibits are much more informative and enticing.

It is a great place to discover the greatness of Indonesia in its history and diversity. With the surrounding open grounds, it is also a great place to relax and wind down from the hectic streets of Jakarta.

Natalia Imelda (17/05/2016 04:20)
Museun nasional also known as museum gajah. Inside of museum quite decent and in the new building you can find nany artifact. But some of he artifact not manage well, mant of vandalism thing in the artifact.

Cindy Sofia (15/05/2016 12:41)
I love museum. It's great museum which display great things.
Good place to learns about Indonesia History

Diningtyas Dian P (06/05/2016 04:47)
It is always easier to find great malls than decent museums in Indonesia, specifically, Jakarta. But I think National Museum or you'll also hear it as Museum Gajah, is an exception. The collections here are more than decent, nicely curated, and all is in good conditions. The entrance fee is very cheap, only IDR 5,000 for local. My only complain is, their handbook isn't helpful or informative about what's in the museum. So you'll find yourself wandering around the museum and probably just go with it anyway.
