A Unique building from the voc era in indonesia... worth to visit

I went with my big family so we were accompanied by a guide. The historical story he told us is very clear and he guided us nicely. As expected, when you go and visit a museum, a guide is a must.

The place where you can learn about maritime history and also have fun. You can take your children and spent the whole day exploring all the museum exhibits. There are dioramas of Indonesia maritime and world maritime. The place itself before become a museum was a logistic warehouse for VOC during the Dutch East Indie era. Its worth to visit when you exploring Jakarta Old Town.

Unexpectedly good and fun. A lot of historic stuff here. How Batavia become today now. Sunda Kelapa was a great port for export and import. Hope that golden era will come once more time to Jakarta. The building itself is little like a fort defense. And good to take photos. Hopefully more renovation and more content to be added. Price is very cheap yet you get priceless experience. Good place to visit.

Saya suka mengunjungi museum. Kemudian saya merasa menjadi "time traveler" dan menyaksikan peristiwanya - is it silly? 😉
Mari mengunjungi Museum Bahari. Mari kita lebih mencintai NKRI! Jangan melupakan sejarah atau JASMERAH!

Nice museum with great Batavia maritime history..always interesting to see our journey of civilization. Enjoy the good place to make some lovely pics.

First time I visited this museum was 10 years ago, it was so crowded with the Pasar Ikan & kind of creepy because they lack of artificial light and no AC.
But these day, they have improved more, they provide AC, more artificial light & more exhibited things (especially in the history parts).
Sadly half of the museum was burnt 😭 and the Pasar Ikan no longer fill the way to the museum which is I think part of the story of the museum.

On the way to the Maritime Museum you could also see & visit Menara Syahbandar!! It really worth a try to go up up up to the top of it😃😃😃

Worth visiting place. With only IDR 5,000 you can visit this historical place, a National maritime museum. Besides old wooden hulls displayed here, there is a room of diorama about the stories of ancient travelers.

Suryadi van Batavia (25/02/2018 14:58)
Today, the condition and collections are better than 10 years ago. No more fishy smell. Centralized air conditioner and free-flow air makes visitors comfortable.

80% renovation is done. Good service and knowledge from the guide. Lots of good spot for photo and vlog.

Historical area around north jakarta. Near by Jakarta Kota Railway Station. Popular for tourism both local or foreigner.

Rendi Suwardi (10/09/2017 02:21)
When I visited this place is under renovation.. So lots of dust.. Though the guides apologise for it, and they are all friendly and helpful..

Wierya Nagiantha (02/09/2017 08:21)
Interesting place. Recontruction until november 2017 but still open.

Agustiana Zhen (18/08/2017 01:04)
Excellent! For ticket only 5K/person. For now, Bahari museum in on under construction for a better exploring museum.

Omar Murad (01/08/2017 14:01)
High points for the building itself, although there were a lot of renovations going on. It was still a unique place. The content and navigation of the museum needs more work. There were not notice before admission that there is improvements in progress. The exhibits on the 2nd floor were better presented and air conditioned. An interesting place, if you are into the maritime things.

Marked the golden times of nation's sea trade, this place played important role to spread many trade commodities from across the nation into Batavia and vice versa. You can see and learn from historical leftovers displayed here, and enjoy the view of Sunda Kelapa harbor on top of Menara Syahbandar which located just next to the museum. The price to enter the museum is cheap, around Rp.5 ribu.

Rifqi Rofiqi (09/07/2017 23:04)
Ticket is cheap , only Rp. 5.000 ( 2017) , you can visit uitkijk syanbandar and Museum Bahari as well. Bring your sunglasses.

Fachri Reza (06/05/2017 12:25)
I love the ambience of the old buildings once a storage complex. Only several rooms are air conditioned.

Malindo Marpaung (08/04/2017 05:18)
Quite old museum. Actually the collection are great and complete. But the location is not good enough and far from central jakarta

Adolf Manurung (17/02/2017 00:33)
Well....the historic place museum navy for since VOC come to Batavia

Alexander Kotys (10/02/2017 22:24)
Very interesting exhibition about the history of ports and ships in Indonesia. Housed in an old Dutch warehouse there are many nautical objects about seafaring in the old days.
Explanatory boards in Indonesian and English language. Special children's area featuring Captain Sparrow & Co.
There is also a Cafe which was closed during my visit.

Amazing old bulding and probably the most underrated museum in Jakarta. Full of colonialism history information and pictures, great section of real size and miniature boats.

Henry Erik Estrada (04/01/2017 17:43)
Interesting museum. Too bad the facilities is lack of staffs. Luckily one of the shop owner in the car park is like to talk.He showed me the stone of 0 KM of Jakarta City

Dalia Me (28/12/2016 15:56)
I loved it! Historical warehouse buildings dating from 1652-1759! Interesting exhibition giving many insights into Indonesian history and colonial past. For 5000 rupiah it's more than worth visiting!

Rusdy S. Nugraha (25/09/2016 09:28)
Cheap ticket, lot of ship miniature. But lighting was poor and no aircon

AG (19/07/2016 11:52)
Nice museum that located on the Northern Jakarta. The building is classic. Here you can see the collection of traditional ships that have contribution in Indonesian history. Then you can find something about maritime and fossils that exist in the sea. You can visit the historic Menara Syahbandar in front of the way to the museum.

El Alami BOUALAM (12/07/2016 16:53)
Nice museum which used to be a spice warehouse, built 1812. It displays nice typical boats from different regions, it also presents the famous sailors that came there to fix their boats at some point; it seems all famous navigators were there at some point, Cook, Vasco De Gama, Ibn Batuta... as well as local figures who fought off the Dutch to gain control of this strategic port. A selection of spices is also displayed.
I was guided by Daniel aka Mr Teacher, which you can meet at place Taman Fatahillah on weekends. He also showed me the neighborhood, incl. historical buildings, the floating town next to the museum and the slum also next to it. He taught me that out of the 25 million inhabitants, 2.5live in sluls and another million under bridges

Admission fee Rp 5.000 per person. Open till 2 PM. Very interesting to visit.

ANA Jakarta (07/04/2016 05:55)
Lots to see here regarding Indonesia's maritime history, although a little run down and very hot inside (no AC), still worth a look if you have an interest in all things maritime. Tour guides are available and all display signs for exhibits are in Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Ender Adison (28/03/2016 12:39)
Has a great view but the collection is not many..
