What a cool dutch colonial herring site! All buildings are remain the same since the dutch conquered our land. The square and buildings around the area are very dutch, you can sense the Dutch feeling there, it’s like you’re in Holland despite the presence of indonesian flag fluttering around the buildings.

2-3 minutes walk from Stasiun Kota busway station, this place is the center of the city during the colonial time when the city is still called Batavia. The main focus on the square is the Museum Fatahillah or Jakarta History Museum, formerly used as a city hall during the Dutch occupation. In the past the place is full of beggar, pickpockets, and pushy sellers - but recent efforts by the government to boost tourism has transformed the place into one of the main attractions in Jakarta and became a popular meeting spot for the locals. Now many events are held here every weekend. On other note the government do still need to rehabilitate some of the building there and and more sign and facility to cater to tourist.

Want to explore old town of Jakarta, then you must visit this area. Quite easy to come here, Use Transjakarta Corridor 1 (Blok M - Kota Tua) and you will finally arrived since it is located in the end of corridor 1 route.

You'll love if you visit in the sunday morning. There is a parade that will bring you to Sunda Kelapa 90's. It was very crowded on weekend. So many singing beggars who will follow you if you not give them coins. The bathroom was inside museum. The musholla was too small. There are a lot of trash can. You can lend "onthel" bike and choose your favorite color.

One of the most preserved landmarks in Jakarta. Many call this spot as the old city or "Kota Tua" as the original buildings have been well built since 1700s. You'll find the adjoining buildings are surrounding the square which has 360 degree of panoramic view. There are many colourful bikes to rent. Furthermore, it's a great place to learn Jakarta's history as the museum opens daily from 9am-4pm. Get there just about 5 minutes walking from Stasiun Kota.

Very nice to spend your afternoon here. Many great photo spot. Unfortunately, bicycles rent in the middle of square is kind of disturbing.
Near to Jakarta Kota station, so you can easily commute here. Don’t go here on the weekend, since it may be too crowded. Go here on weekday instead to get the best experience.
Also there’s free double deck bus near here, which is nice

It is historical place and surrounded by museums, good place for knowing Jakarta deeper. The price for entrance of museums not so expensive, but they open until 5pm. A lot of people will ask the picture with foreigners

This place is very lively on the weekend! Please take care of yourself when visiting this square since all kind of locals and tourists can flock around the area.
There is live music, tattoo artists, bicycle rental, and snack vendors.
If you're trying to hunt some photos, try to go there at 14:00 - 16:00 since it'll be crowded and you'll notice a lot of different types of crowds.
If you're aiming for landscape photos, visit at 09:00 - 11:00. But be careful, the weather might be not as nice as it seems since the square doesn't have any big trees to cool down the heat.

This place is one of my favorite spots in Jakarta. You can visit some museums nearby and there are some restaurants as well, with a diverse range of prices. If you just want to sit and enjoy the surroundings, you can also buy some drinks or snacks easily because there are some convenience stores as well. Aside from the museums and restaurants, there are some people with costumes that you can take pictures with.

A large open space surrounded by buildings built during the Dutch colonial era. It is actually quite beautiful, but at times there are too many street vendors around.
berkan ozturk (29/07/2017 01:21)

Visit this place if you like museums and historic buildings. lots of Street vendors selling tasty food, beware if your not used to eating Street food. Museums are not kept well, state of museums are below par but watchable. Square gets super hot during mid day, make sure you carry an umbrella.

Nice place to visit in Jakarta. You could easy to go this place by busway or commuter line.
The old town scenery of Batavia was great. You could do quick visit some museums with very low price ticket, moreover if you are having student card. Unfortunately, there are too many seller that make situation so crowded.

Visit this place in the evening, surprise to realize how this place is now really a public space. No street vendors inside the square, security and cleaning service are every where to give you the real safety feeling. Close at 10 pm.

The historic core of old Jakarta is known today as 'Kota'. most impressive historic buildings are to be found here. Taman Fatahillah (Fatahillah Square) is the centre of the old city. The early eighteenth century Batavia Town Hall is here. almost a year to re-pave the main square.
Facing the square is the infamous Jakarta History Museum. Opposite the street from Jakarta History Museum is the Arts and Ceramic Museum. You can even try the ceramic workshop inside. It has a saturday cheap market near Cafe Batavia.
Steve Laurensius (21/02/2017 13:04)

Old square rejuvenated. Sorrounded by colonnial styled buildings. Gives a good glimpse of how Jakarta used to be in my opinion.
Raditya Fadilla (27/11/2016 04:26)
A nice place to visit. Foreigners be advised, lots of students might want to ask you questions for their assignments. And I'm glad that considering how it is in this country, the square is free of charge to enter.
tegartsaputra (26/11/2016 11:46)
It's full of street performer. Has a good environment and the field is large. You can rent bike, buy some foods, souvenirs and other. The street busker usually busking here, they are so talented! Nice place.
Rio Rinaldo (14/09/2016 09:48)
I love this old square. It's surrounded by old beautiful-thank-God-now-rejuvenated buildings that now turned into restaurants and museums. Let's all keep it clean. After visiting all the museums, you can rent a colorful bike with equally colorful hat for 20K per 0.5 hour or, like me, just sit and people watching.
Kevin Chan (16/08/2016 13:47)
Worth a visit to this area. A large opens space where you can hire one of the colourful bikes to ride around and take pictures. It can get quite hot.
Note: The museums surrounding this space are not open on Monday.

One of the best spots in Jakarta! Such a nice atmosphere especially when it gets dark. For me as a German it is just to bad that it's not allowed to have a cold beer on that place.

One of the best tourism spot in Jakarta. Famous of it's museum, Museum Fatahillah, vintage-themed tourism attractions like vintage bicycle, vintage-themed café, etc.
You can visit Wayang Museum (Doll Museum), & Bank & Currency Museum around here too.
